Smyrna High scored all of its points in the first half, downing Polytech, 56-7, to finish the regular season unbeaten in Henlopen North football on Friday night.

The Eagles (6-0 North, 10-0 overall) have now won 20 games in a row over the last two seasons.

Defending Division I state champion Smyrna is expected to receive one of the top two seeds when the DIAA state tournament pairings are determined on Sunday.

Six different players accounted for the Eagles’ seven touchdowns on Friday with junior Will Knight scoring on a 60-yard run and on a 40-yard pass from quarterback Nolan Henderson. Henderson threw for three TDs and also caught a 27-yard scoring pass from Knight.

Vincent Tascione scored on a three-yard run for the Panthers (0-6, 1-9).

Cape Henlopen 32, Sussex Tech 21: The Vikings scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally for the Henlopen North win in their regular-season finale.

Benjamin Ashby scored on a 45-yard run before Rasheed Woods followed with a 51-yard TD run as Cape (5-1 North, 7-3 overall) overcame a 21-20 deficit to snap a two-game losing streak.

Woods finished with three touchdowns in the contest, adding a pair of 31-yard scoring runs. Kolbi Wright scored the Vikings’ first TD on a 34-yard run.

For the Ravens, quarterback Tyzhir Morris threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Griffin Dunn before scoring on a seven-yard run. Jordan Waters added Sussex Tech’s third TD on an eight-yard run.

Sussex Central 54, Indian River 21: The Golden Knights (7-3) put themselves in poistion to earn an at-large state tourney berth with the win over the Indians.

IR finishes the season at 2-8.

Laurel 62, Seaford 0: The Bulldogs rolled past the Blue Jays to finish the season with a record of 4-6.

Seaford ends up with a record of 1-9.

College basketball

MEN, Delaware 64, Goldey-Beacom 46: The Blue Hens held on for the victory in Martin Ingelsby’s debut as head coach.

Senior guard Cazmon Hayes led the Hens with 16 points, while sophomore forward Eric Carter notched his first career double-double with career-highs of 14 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard Darian Bryant, making his UD debut, poured in 13 points off the bench while senior swingman Devonne Pinkard chipped in with eight points.

Delaware led 31-20 at the half but NCAA Division II Goldey-Beacom cut the Hens’ lead to one point on five occasions during the second half.

The Lightning closed to within 52-51 with 4:05 left, but Bryant hit two free throws, Pinkard converted a layup, and Carter scored in the paint to put UD up by seven.

The Hens (1-0), who won their second straight home opener and improved to 17-8 all-time in BCC openers, led by at least four points the rest of the way for the victory.

“We’re excited for our group to get this first win, they deserve it,” said Ingelsby, who spent the last 13 years as an assistant on former UD coach Mike Brey’s staff at Notre Dame.

Delaware State 103, Clarks Summit 56: Six players scored in double figures to lead the Hornets to a season-opening victory over the Division II opponent.

Junior forward Kavon Waller led the way with 16 points on six-for eight shooting from the field, including four-of-six on three point shots. The four three-pointers matched his career-high.

Senior DeAndre Haywood added 14 points (6-10 FGs), while freshman Kobe Gantz and Artem Tavakalyan came off the bench to also score 14.

Dana Raysor tallied 13 points and DeVaughn Mallory, a Polytech High product, tacked on 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The Hornets were 40-for-74 from the field (54.1 percent), including 11-of-21 on three point shots (52.4 percent).

Delaware State’s point total was its highest since a 107-48 victory over Cairn on Nov. 9, 2013. DSU’s 11 three-points were also its most since knocking down 12 against Summitt last season.

College soccer

MEN, Delaware 2, Charleston 1: The Blue Hens advanced to the CAA Men’s Soccer Final for the third straight season with the semifinal win on Friday.

Blue Hens senior and CAA Player of the Year Guillermo Delgado scored with less than two minutes remaining to lift second-seeded UD (11-7-1) over the sixth-seeded Cougars (6-9-3).

Delaware will face William & Mary in Sunday’s title game at 2:30 p.m. live on ASN, CAA.tv and Roku. Despite out-shooting CofC, 14-3, in the first half, the Hens could not break through as the two teams went into the break scoreless.

College volleyball

James Madison 3, Delaware 1: The Blue Hens saw their five-match winning streak come to an end with the CAA loss.

The Dukes, who won their seventh in a row while improving to 18-10 overall and 10-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association, captured the match by set scores of 25-18, 25-13, 22-25, 25-22. Delaware dropped to 13-15 overall and 7-8 in conference play.

Senior outside hitter Autumn Jenkins led the Blue Hens with 17 kills and 11 digs, as she posted her 16th double-double of the season. Maria Bellinger added 10 kills on the night, while Alexa Swann had nine kills and a team-leading four blocks. Erin Layne dished out 36 assists during the loss, while Taylor Hollingsworth added nine digs.
