Caesar Rodney High won eight out of the possible 10 titles to sweep both the boys’ and girls’ team championships as the Henlopen Conference tennis tournament concluded on Monday.

It was the 11th crown in a row for the Riders’ girls and the eighth straight title for CR’s boys.

The tourney, held at Sea Colony, finished on Monday after being postponed by rain on Saturday.

CR sophomore Rishi Gundakaram won the Henlopen title at boys’ first singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dover’s Charles Anyanwu. Gundakaram won all three of his matches in straight sets.

Other boys’ champions for the Riders were David Haynes (second singles), Garrett Wrede (third singles) and Yash Patel-Francis Tamesis (second doubles).

Smyrna’s Alec Shalk and Alex Savich captured the first-doubles championship. The Eagles finished second in the team standings.

In the girls’ bracket, CR’s Halle Parker took the first-singles’ crown with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Dover’s Victoria Anyanwu. Parker also won her three matches in straight sets.

The Riders’ other conference champions were Natasha Sijan (second singles), Katherine Tamesis-Micaela Thorogood (first doubles) and Piper Casey-Chloe Therese Mangubat (second doubles).

The other winner was Dover’s Sophie Malenfont, who won a three-set match in the third singles finals. The Senators took second in the team standings.

Lacrosse

Vikings, Panthers in tourney: Cape Henlopen and Polytech were the only two downstate squads to make the 10-team field for the DIAA girls’ lacrosse state tournament that was determined on Monday.

The tourney begins on Thursday with a pair of first-round contests.

In Saturday’s quarterfinals, Polytech (10-4) is seeded fifth and will play an 11 a.m. matchup at No. 4 St. Mark’s (13-2) while No. 3 Cape Henlopen (13-2) hosts sixth-seeded Caravel (12-3) at 6 p.m.

Archmere (14-1) is the No. 1 seed. The championship game is scheduled for May 25 at the Delaware Turf Sports Complex in Frederica.

Cape has won the last eight state championships.

GIRLS, Caravel 19, Smyrna 6: Six different players scored for the Eagles in their season-ending loss.

Goalie Katelynn Porter made eight saves for Smyrna, which finishes with a record of 9-6.

Ursuline 20, Caesar Rodney 8: Sawyer Walker netted three goals for the Riders, who finished the season with a record of 5-10.

Kacie Cava and Lillian Ayers added two goals apiece for CR.

Padua 22, Sussex Tech 10: The Ravens finished 3-11 after the setback.

BOYS, Dover 19, Milford 13: The Senators built a 10-3 halftime lead before downing the Buccaneers.

Dover, which has won five games in a row, finishes the regular season at 11-4.

Cape Henlopen 16, Worcester Prep 7: The Vikings tallied the game’s first six goals en route to the win.

Erik-Stephane Stancofski (1 assist) and Jacob Brown (2 assists) had three goals each for Cape as 10 Vikings scored in the contest.

Wilm. Friends 20, Sussex Tech 11: Nate Quillen (4 assists) and Patrick Short (2 assists) tallied three goals apiece for the Ravens in the loss.

Hunter Severs made 14 saves for Sussex Tech.

Smyrna 12, Caravel 11: The Eagles edged the Buccaneers in a nonconference matchup.

Softball

Sussex Tech 8, Polytech 0: Brooke Ward pitched a seven-inning one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the Ravens’ Henlopen Conference win.

Madison Watson and Rylee Shockley both had multiple hits for Sussex Tech, which had 12 hits in the contest.

Kaite Burawski struck out nine for the Panthers with Jazlee Rojas adding their lone hit.

Padua 6, Delmar 2: The Pandas built a 6-0 lead after three innings before topping the Wildcats.

Avery Wheatley and Madi Lemon each contributed two of Delmar’s five hits in the contest.

St Thomas More 16, McKean 1: Kara Scarangella threw a five-hitter and struck out 11 for the Ravens, who had 18 hits in the victory.

Gillian LeBlanc and Sarah Reeves both had triples.

Girls’ soccer

Sussex Tech 2, Caravel 1: The Ravens scored twice in a five-minute span of the second half to knock off the Buccaneers.

Nicolette Phillips’ goal in the 57th minute tied the score before Kira Short won it on a goal in the 62nd minute.

Valencia Whealton made six saves for Sussex Tech, which outshot Caravel 7-6.

Polytech 8, Dickinson 0: Paxton McGinnity scored twice in the first half as six Panthers had goals in the nonconference win.

Sam Stafford, Jenna McDuff, Meadow Watkinson, Mackenzi Semans and Jennah Morris also scored for Polytech.

Newark Charter 6, Lake Forest 3: The Patriots led 5-0 at halftime before picking up the victory.

Kallie Moyer, Lauren Sharp and Hannah Fox all scored in the final 10 minutes for the Spartans while Brooke Tucker and Riley Wood combined for 10 saves.

Delmarva Christian 5, Laurel 1: Mara Agapito had three goals while Skylar Bennett had the other two in the Royals’ victory.

Delmarva Christian scored four answered second-half goals.

Laurel’s Emmanuela Charles-Aine netted the first goal of the game.

Baseball

Smyrna 14, Laurel 1: Leading 3-1, the Eagles broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning.

Smyrna’s Harvey Carrow, Caden Naylor, Max Lattomus, and Larsen Wilson all had multiple RBI.

The Bulldogs’ Dalton Perdue hit an RBI triple.

St. Elizabeth 7, St. Thomas More 2: Patrick Magee had an RBI double for the Ravens in a game that was tied 1-1 after three innings.

Delmarva Christian 23, Chesapeake Christian 2: Winning pitcher Mike Apgar struck out nne in four innings while Brandon Schlabach and Trent Mills each had a pair of doubles for the Royals.

College softball

Two Wolverines named all-region: Wesley College sophomore infielder Ashley Royer and senior catcher Nina Marcano were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Region teams,

Royer earned first-team All-Atlantic accolades after ranking fourth in the CAC in runs batted in (40), tied for eighth in home runs (4) and tied for ninth in doubles (10). She tallied a .495 batting average. Royer was named the NFCA Player of the Week on March 1 and the CAC Player of the Week on Feb. 27.

Marcano was a second-team All-Atlantic honoree after leading the CAC with 21 stolen bases. She ranked third in the conference in RBI (45), batting average (.452), tied for fourth in hits (57), tied for fifth in homers (6) and seventh in on-base percentage (.490).

College baseball

UD’s Ake earns CAA honor: Delaware senior infielder Jeremy Ake was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week in baseball on Monday.

Ake batted .545 (6-11) with three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and seven RBI this weekend. The performance propelled Delaware to a three-game sweep of Towson that clinched the Hens’ a CAA Tournament berth. The senior contributed at least one hit and scored one run in all three contests.

Ake currently ranks second in the CAA with a .358 batting average. Over the three-game span he had a .615 on-base percentage and slugged 1.091.

Delaware concludes regular season play this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at home against Charleston.

College lacrosse

UD hosting NCAA quarterfinals: The schedule has been set for the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals being played at Delaware Stadium on Sunday.

Towson faces Syracuse at noon followed by Maryland taking on Albany at 2:30 p.m. The two winners advance to the NCAA semifinals on May 27-29 at Gillette Stadium in the Boston area.
