Caesar Rodney High used a three-run fifth inning to get past Polytech, 4-1, in Henlopen Conference softball on Tuesday afternoon.

It was the first time the Riders have beaten the defending state champion Panthers since 2011.

Lauren Polinski and Courtney Malin both had two hits and a run scored for the Riders while pitcher Alyssa Ball earned the win.

Morgan Dodge had a pair of hits for Polytech, which led 1-0 after scoring a run in the third.

Smyrna 3, Woodbridge 1: Winning pitcher Jessica Anderson hit a two-run double in the second as the Eagles (9-0) stayed unbeaten.

Anderson threw a five-hitter with seven strikeouts and only one walk. Kaelyn Press added a triple and double for Smyrna.

Rachel Driscoll had an RBI single in the sixth for the Raiders.

Lake Forest 11, Del. Military 1: Winning pitcher Kerrigan Simpson struck out nine and went 4-for-4 at the plate as the Spartans (10-3) won their third game in a row.

Faith Garey had two hits, with a homerun and three RBI while Mya Maddox added three of Lake Forest’s 17 hits.

Cape Henlopen 3, Dover 2: The Vikings scored three runs in the top of the seventh to rally for the victory.

The Senators scored their two runs in the sixth.

Milford 13, Delmar 9: The Buccaneers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the conference win.

St. Thomas More 19, Glasgow 6: Kara Scarengella threw a five-inning six-hitter with nine strikeouts to earn the win for the Ravens.

St. Thomas More totaled 21 hits, breaking the game open with 10 runs in the third.

Sussex Tech 15, Seaford 1: Nicole Hovatter and Alleigh Townsend both homered for the Ravens, who scored nine runs in the third.

Taylor Wroten and Rylee Shockley combined to pitch a five-inning two-hitter.

Shi Johnson and Marilyn Patusch had hits for the Blue Jays with Ayanna Cannon driving in the lone run.

Delmarva Christian 5, Holly Grove Christian, Md. 1: Camryn Thompson tossed a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts to take the win for the Royals.

Ashlyn Stonebraker had a two-run single with Jordyn DiFava and Malaurie Noble also adding RBIs for Delmarva Christian.

Baseball

Polytech 13, Caesar Rodney 9: The Panthers opened up an 11-6 lead after scoring six runs in the fourth before posting the Henlopen win.

Logan Olshenske was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI for Polytech while Carter Chasanov had two hits and scored twice.

Tom Pomatto (3-for-5), Quintin Ivy (2-for-3, 3 RBI), Kyle Comegys (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Robert Williams (2 RBI) led the Riders.

Smyrna 10, Woodbridge 0: Garrett Casey threw a five-inning four-hitter with nine strikeouts and only one walk to earn the shutout to the Eagles.

Nolan Henderson (3-for-3), Shawn Dulin (3-for-4) and Brandt Penuel (2-for-3) all drove in runs for Smyrna with Jared Gillis hitting a two-run triple.

Jacob Rogers doubled for Woodbridge.

Lake Forest 14, St. Thomas More 0: Eric Berardicelli had three hits and three RBI to lead the Spartans to the victory.

Hunter Fleetwood (3 RBI) and Tyler Collins (2 RBI) both added a pair of hits while three Lake pitchers combined on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Travis Ziegler and Israel Rudinoff had hits for the Ravens.

Milford 11, Delmar 0: Winning pitcher Holden Bailey gave up only four hits in six innings for the Buccaneers.

Sussex Tech 12, Seaford 11: The Ravens scored three runs in the top of the seventh and then held on after the Blue Jays answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Reliever Justin Hill got the last two outs to earn a save. Hill and Anthony Hitchcock had two hits and three runs scored apiece while Cole Collins had three RBI.

Justin Gray, who had a homer and four RBI, and Evan Nibblett (3 RBI) had three hits each for the Blue Jays.

Holly Grove Christian 6, Delmarva Christian 3: Holly Grove jumped out to a 6-1 lead before downing the Royals.

Girls’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 7, Lake Forest 0: Lynsy Gruwell scored three of the Riders’ first four goals while assisting on the other.

Jessie Prillaman (2 assists), Megan Powers (1 assist), Macy Ramsey and and Molly Harris also scored goals for the Riders with Marianna Nuzzo making three saves.

CR held advantages of 25-5 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

The Spartans’ Alyssa Banks stopped 10 shots.

Dover 6, Laurel 0: The Senators tallied four first-half goals in blanking the Bulldogs.

Indian River 3, Smyrna 0: Brooke Beam and Madison Hogsten collected a goal and assist each for the Indians.

Fabrea McCray made a pair of saves to earn the shutout while Emma-Lee Merrick netted the Indians’ first goal.

Smyrna Cassidy Cook made six saves as IR outshot Smyrna, 14-3.

Sussex Tech 6, Milford 0: Hanna McDonald scored a goal in each half to pace the Ravens.

Sussex Tech’s other goals came from Sheyla Artiga, Nicolette Phillips, Alexis Singh and Ella Marsh. Kiara Whealton had a pair of saves for the Ravens, who outshot the Buccaneers, 19-2.

Kimberly had eight saves for Milford.

Woodbridge 4, Sussex Central 1: The Raiders tallied four first-half goals in the victory.

Wilm. Friends 8, St. Thomas More 0: The Quakers netted eight first-half goals in the victory.

Kourtnie Orth made four saves for the Ravens.

College baseball

Delaware 19, Delaware State 8: The Blue Hen had 16 hits and took advantage of five DSU errors to roll to the win.

Three different Hens had three hits, five players had two or more RBI, seven scored two or more runs, and Delaware collected seven extra-base hits in its third win of the season over Delaware State.

The Hens (25-16) have won four of their last five games while the Hornets (10-29) have lost three of their last five games.

Delaware redshirt freshman centerfielder Kevin Mohollen went 3-for-6, scored four runs, knocked in four runs, hit his third home run of the season, and collected two doubles.

Freshman catcher Evan Regez was 3-for-5 with two runs scored while rookie shortstop Chris Panzarella smacked his second home run of the season for the Hornets.
