Tymire Riddick’s 22 points helped Milford High edge Red Lion Christian Academy 50-45 in the first round of the boys’ basketball state tournament on Wednesday night.

With the win, the 12th-seeded Buccaneers advanced to play at No. 5 Smyrna High at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Brion Murray added 15 points for Milford who rallied from a 16-9 first quarter deficit. The Buccaneers got back into the game with an 11-3 run throughout the second quarter.

St. Mark’s 57, Indian River 21: Led by senior guard Chris Ludman, the No. 15 St. Mark’s Spartans opened the state tournament with a decisive 36-point victory over No. 18 Indian River.

Indian River struggled to get the offense going in the first half, ending the opening quarter without any points on the board. IR’s first basket of the game came at the 6:20 mark of the second quarter, leading to a 22-4 deficit at halftime.

In the second half, St. Mark’s offense continued to wear down IR’s defense. St. Mark’s went to the free throw line 29 times, making 20 of those attempts.

Ludman scored 21 points for the Spartans, including seven-of-seven from the free throw line. Senior guard Billy Sullivan added 14 more. In total, nine Spartans scored at least two points in the first round victory.

Colby Chandler’s eight points led the Indians in scoring. Sophomore Jamier Felton scored four points.

St. Mark’s will travel to St. Thomas More Friday night for the second round.

Sanford 66, Laurel 37: The Bulldogs fell to 11th-seeded Sanford as Sanford star Jyaire Davis netted 33 points.

Eric Pilot scored 12 points for Laurel, hitting four three-point attempts.

Women’s basketball

Delaware 75, Towson 59: Seniors Erika Brown and Hannah Jardine were determined to leave it all on the court in their final game at the Bob Carpenter Center, and they did just that Wednesday evening.

The pair combined for 37 points, including seven 3-pointers, as Delaware picked up the victory over Towson in the regular season finale for both squads.

Brown finished the night with 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor while Jardine tallied 12 points on a season-high four treys to go along with five rebounds.

Sophomore Nicole Enabosi added 10 points and 11 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season.

The Blue Hens (16-13, 10-8 CAA) jumped out to an early lead and went up by as much as 17 points in the first quarter and never looked back in the victory.

Sianni Martin and Raven Bankston each notched 16 points for the Tigers (12-17, 5-13 CAA) while Mary Cuevas grabbed 11 rebounds.

“We haven’t won a senior night game since I’ve been here,” Jardine said. “So it was great because my family was here and we were able to get the win. Obviously they came back a bit in the fourth quarter, but we handled it. This is stuff we’re going to see next week at the CAA Tournament so it prepared us for that.”

With the win and a William & Mary victory over Drexel, the Tribe secure the No. 4 seed while the Hens will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament.
