Jessie Prillaman’s goal in the 78th minute lifted Caesar Rodney High to a 2-1 victory over Smyrna in Henlopen Conference Northern Division girls’ soccer on Thursday evening.

The Eagles led 1-0 on a first-half goal from senior Casey Bell.

But Macy Ramsey tied the contest for CR in the 43rd minute. For the Riders (2-0 North, 5-1 overall) the win was their 18th North victory in a row.

Goalie Cassidy Cook made 12 saves for Smyrna (0-2, 0-5) which lost its fourth straight game by one goal.

CR held advantages of 15-1 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks.

Indian River 7, Milford 1: Madison Hogsten netted five first-half goals to pace the Indians to the Henlopen South win.

Bailey Singer and Margaret Ford added second-half goals for IR, which outshot the Buccaneers, 16-1.

Daphne Leighty scored in the first half for Milford while Alicia Strack made six saves.

College football

Hens lose assistant coach: Delaware football assistant coach Fontel Mines announced Thursday that he is leaving the Blue Hens staff to pursue another coaching opportunity.

“Fontel is one of the great young coaches in the college football profession and has been very loyal to me over the years,” said first-year Delaware head coach Danny Rocco. “We wish him the best.”

An immediate search to find Mines’ successor is currently underway. Mines served as Delaware’s wide receivers coach as well as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

A native of Richmond, Va., Mines was a standout wide receiver at the University of Virginia in 2003-06 and went on to play four seasons in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears.

He began his coaching career at Chowan (N.C.) College in 2011 before spending the last five seasons with Rocco at the University of Richmond. While at Richmond, he helped the lead the Spiders to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances in 2014-16.
