Paxton McGinnity’s overtime goal gave the Polytech High girls’ soccer team a 3-2 victory over Cape Henlopen High on Friday afternoon in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division matchup.

The Panthers were trailing 2-1 in the second half before Jennah Morris equalized with 6:17 remaining in the game. Devon Ott provided the other goal for Polytech.

Delmar 5, Delmarva Christian 1: Logan Walls scored four goals to pace the Wildcats on Friday.

Bashia Korten recorded a goal and an assist for Delmar.

Sussex Tech 0, St. Georges 0: The Ravens played to a scoreless draw in the nonconference contest.

Polytech 7, Caravel 6: Brianna Stevenson’s double highlighted a three-run bottom of the sixth as the Panthers earned a come from behind victory against Caravel.

Carissa Thorne had a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Alyssa Ball and Alexxys Harris contributed triples for the Riders.

Dover 17, St. Thomas More 0: Katie Dunlap pitched a one-hitter for the Senators and also added a double on offense in the nonconference victory.

Sussex Central 11, Conrad 6: Hayley McCabe posted 13 strikeouts and the Golden Knights scored 10 runs in the first three innings to pick up a nonconference win.

Delmar 7, Delmarva Christian 1: Avery Wheatley had a pair of hits and Lexi Harris drove in three runs for the Wildcats.

Tracey Pleasanton tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Siera Jones led the Royals with two hits and the lone RBI.

Baseball

Caesar Rodney 7, Woodbridge 6: John Campiglia who had two hits and three stolen bases as the Riders jumped out to a 7-1 lead and held on.

Ryan Rigby tripled and scored for the Riders. CR’s Matt Atkinson pitched five innings allowing a run and striking out four.

The Blue Raider offense was led by Tyler DeFord and Douglas Avery who both had two hits.

Sussex Tech 5, Indian River 3: Luke Oliphant doubled to drive in Matt Warrington to break up a 2-2 tie in the fourth and the Ravens stayed in front for the victory.

GIRLS, Polytech 9, Middletown 5: Madilyn McKay scored five goals in the Panther victory.

Camryn Dennis and Mackenzie Estrada had two a pair of goals apiece.

Dover 16, Delaware Military Academy 2: Riley McQuaide netted five goals and Grace Gast followed with four for the Senators.

Smyrna 20, St. Thomas More 11: Sierra Duman powered the Eagles to the victory with five goals while Juliana Kolakowski and Emma Mayew each netted four goals.

Gillian Crawford paced St. Thomas More with a game-high six goals.

BOYS, Milford 14, Smyrna 10: Conor Christie’s five goals lifted the Buccaneers over Smyrna.

Jonathan Gaglione had a hat trick for Milford while Cohen Bonneville and Alex Herka each netted a pair of goals.

Delmar 16, Sussex Central 9: The Wildcats recorded their third win in a row after starting the season 0-3.

Gunston, Md. 14, Delmarva Christian 4: Hunter Smith scored three of the four Delmarva Christian goals and Colin Anderson provided the other.

College baseball

Delaware 2, Northeastern 1: The Blue Hens (16-12, 4-3 CAA) received big outings from lefty ace Brandon Walter and closer Ron Marinaccio for their third-straight CAA victory.

Walter pitched eight one-run innings, allowing eight hits and striking out 11. The ace allowed a leadoff single in the ninth, prompting Delaware head coach Jim Sherman to call upon Marinaccio who retired the next three batters in order, striking out the side in the process.

The win pulls Delaware into a third place tie with Northeastern (11-16, 4-3 CAA) in the CAA standings.

Nick Tierno had the game-winning RBI for Delaware with a single in the seventh to score James Meeker. Cape Henlopen grad Diaz Nardo had the other RBI for the Hens.

College equestrian

DSU horse earns major award: The National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) has announced this year’s top horses in collegiate equestrian and Delaware State’s “Calvin” has made the list for the second year in a row.

“Calvin,” a 13-year-old gelding, is a Western quarter horse and a Top-10 in the nation in the Horsemanship category. He was donated to the university by a friend of the Hornet equestrian program.

The selection of Calvin as a Top 10 horse is the latest accomplishment for the Delaware State equestrian team. The Hornets will compete in next week’s National Collegiate Equestrian Association championship tournament in Waco, Tex., after capturing the 2017 United Equestrian Conference title for the first time in team history last month.

Delaware State head coach Jen Ridgley was named 2017 United Equestrian Conference Co-Coach of the Year. She won the award for the first time in 2016.
