Chase Chappel’s 19 points helped carry Polytech to its first boys’ basketball victory of the season, 80-56 over Sussex Tech on Tuesday night.

Cody Davis scored 14 points for the Panthers (1-2). Sussex Tech was led by Brandon Palmer’s 12 points.

The Ravens dropped to 0-4.

St. Thomas More 63, Sussex Central 37: Kobe Morris netted 17 points as St. Thomas More won its fourth game in a row.

Corey Gordon scored 12 points while Alvin West had 10. The Ravens moved to 4-1.

Cape Henlopen 72, Milford 64: The Vikings outscored the Buccaneers 9-1 in overtime for the win.

Ian Robertson had eight points in overtime and finished with 22. Demetrius Price followed with 21 points for Cape (3-1).

Henry Nesmith had a game-high 25 for Milford who lost for the first time this year (3-1).

Woodbridge 71, Indian River 52: Cornell Corbin’s 17 points and 15 from Ja’mi Ross lifted the Blue Raiders on Tuesday.

Hassan Corbin contributed 14 points in the winning effort for Woodbridge (1-1).

Girls’ basketball

St. Thomas More 49, McKean 9: Amaja’ Mack scored 18 points as the Ravens earned a nonconference win.

Aniah Patterson had 12 points while Sasha Marvel was also in double figures with 10.

Ursuline 64, Dover 22: Xzaviera Robinson and Tajanae Henry-Coney each had six points as the Senators fell to the defending state champions.

It was the first loss of the year for Dover (3-1).

Milford 49, Cape Henlopen 42: Jonae Boone led the Buccaneers (2-0) with 17 points while Rajene Bowe added 16.

Woodbridge 58, Indian River 24: Altia Anderson and Tykeya Nelson each netted 17 points in the Blue Raider victory.

Mykle Crippen finished with 10 for Woodbridge (1-1).

College soccer

Wesley alum honored: Wesley College alumni and former men’s soccer standout Garland “GR” Cannon was named the 2015 NSCAA Youth Boys East Regional Soccer Coach of the Year on Friday, December 11. GR received notice of the award from Louise Waxler, past president of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Chair of the Youth Coach of the Year Program. The honor recognizes GR’s accomplishments this past season and during his coaching career with the Bayshore Soccer Club of Maryland.

The presentation of the Regional Coach of the Year honor will take place at the annual Youth Club Social during the NSCAA Convention in Baltimore, Hilton Hotel, January 14, 2016.

“This is well deserved for GR, he has positively affected many young players on the Eastern shore of Maryland, both on and off the field. He brings energy, knowledge and a competitive spirit that has helped so many individuals to improve, teams to better compete with bigger clubs and the Bayshore Soccer Club to raise its profile regionally. We at Wesley are very proud of him” commented Wesley Soccer head coach, Steve Clark.

Cannon graduated from Wesley College in 2004 and was inducted into the Wesley College Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the Induction Class of 2013. Cannon played at the highest level of American soccer, as a part of the D.C United club of Major League Soccer. Cannon finished his Wesley career with 45 points. His 15 career assists rank seventh all-time in Wesley program history.
