Caravel Academy used a five-run bottom of the fifth to defeat Polytech High 11-7 in a nonconference baseball matchup on Tuesday afternoon.

Cole Garey paced the Panthers with a solo home run and had a multi-hit game. Brendan Davis went 3-for-4 for Polytech while Carter Chasanov tripled.

Polytech fell to 5-3.

Caesar Rodney 7, Concord 1: Matt Atkinson moved to 2-0 on the season, pitching a complete game allowing five hits, no runs and four strikeouts.

The Rider offense was led by Blake Donovan who was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Brandon Hatch and John Campiglia also had a pair of hits apiece for CR.

Salesianum 8, Sussex Tech 4: The Ravens surrendered five runs in the top of the fifth during a nonconference defeat.

Delmar 11, Hodgson 0: Avery Wheatley lead the Wildcats going 4-for-4 with five RBI in the nonconference contest.

Madison Lemon contributed to the Delmar victory with a multihit game and Tracey Pleasanton pitched a complete game shutout.

Boys’ lacrosse

Cape Henlopen 9, Shipley, Pa. 0: Jaycob Trimmer’s four-goal effort lifted the Vikings to an out of state win.

Ethan Ghabra added a pair of goals. Luke D’Ambrogi had three assists.

Wesley 2, York 0: The Wolverines opened the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship Tournament with a 2-0 win on the road over the York (Pa.) Spartans on Tuesday.

Wesley was paced by a dominating pitching performance by Alex Marrs. Marrs pitched a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts while only issuing two walks to earn his ninth win of the season. Marrs faced four over the minimum and had a no-hit bid until a Seth Brosius single with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

After a leadoff walk in the sixth inning by Cody Dmiterchik, Trey Mears cracked a two-run home run to left field for the only runs scored in the game.

Mears, Will Barton, Chris Seibert, Aaron Briggs and Michael Piccirillo each tallied hits in the win.

Delaware 11, St. Joseph’s 6: The Blue Hens captured its seventh straight victory at Bob Hannah Stadium and to run their season home mark to 17-3.

Delaware (21-14) hit three home runs, including a grand slam off the bat of third baseman Diaz Nardo as part of a pivotal seven-run seventh inning. Other highlights included Jordan Glover going 3 for 5 with his team-high ninth home run of the season in the fourth and Nick Tierno producing a 4-for-5 day.

Delaware reliever Kyle Hinton pitched three scoreless innings, striking out five, to earn his first victory of the season. He entered the game with the Hens trailing 4-2 with no outs in the fifth inning and allowed only a sacrifice fly while striking out two batters to get UD out of a jam.

Delaware State 8, Farleigh Dickerson 7: The Hornets won their third straight game to improve to 12-19 this season.

FDU led 3-1 when Delaware State put four runs on the board in the sixth to take the lead. Todd Henry singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a walk to Jaylen Zielecki. Austin Bentley followed with a double to left center, scoring Henry and Zielecki to tie the game at 3-3 lead. Bentley was still at second with two outs when Evan Regez reached base on an infield single, sending Bentley to third.

The next batter, Kwestin Smith, drew a walk to load the bases. Delaware State pulled ahead 4-3 when Devenney was hit by a pitch to score Bentley from third. Jared Gillis then drew a bases loaded walk, allowing Regez to cross the plate and give the Hornets a two-run lead.

DSU scored three times in the eighth to open up some breathing room. The first three batters walked in the inning to load the bases. Gillis then singled to right to give the Hornets a 6-3 lead. Henry knocked in the second run of the inning on a sac fly and the third run crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put the Hornets ahead by five.

Devenney, Gillis and Bentley drove in two runs each, while Regez was 2-for-4 to raise his team-leading average to .376 this season.

Hunter McVey (1-1) threw four innings of relief to earn the win for the Hornets.
