Delaware’s high-scoring efforts continued Sunday afternoon as the No. 8 Blue Hens picked up a 6-1 victory over No. 19 American in field hockey at Jacobs Field.

The win was the 11th straight for Delaware (15-2), tying the school record set in 1986.

Senior Maura Zarkoski led all scorers with a career-high five points on a career-best two goals and an assist.

Sophomore Lisa Giezeman tied a career mark with two goals while senior Esmée Peet registered a goal and assist of her own.

Senior Meghan Winesett put in Delaware’s other goal.

Delaware has reached 15 wins in a season for the ninth time in program history and third time in four years.

The Hens are 5-2 against ranked opponents this season

College football

Two Wolverines honored: Wesley College linebacker Ben Robinson was named New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and kickoff specialist Aaron Nelson was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Robinson becomes the third different Wolverine to earn NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping Wesley remain tied for first place in the conference with a 24-17 NJAC road win at Rowan. He tallied a team-high 12 tackles, including nine solo stops and 3.5 tackles for a loss, with an interception, and a pass defended.

Nelson becomes the second different Wolverine to earn NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after kicking off four times and pinning Rowan deep in its own territory. He averaged 62.5 yards per kickoff with one touchback.

College volleyball

Delaware 3, UNC-Wilmington 1: Blue Hen senior outside hitter Autumn Jenkins blasted a season-high 20 kills while freshman Maria Bellinger added 15 of her own to lead Delaware to the win.

Delaware, which has won three of its last four matches, took the contest by set scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 to improve to 9-14 overall and 3-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seahawks dropped their second straight while falling to 14-8 overall and 4-6 in league action.

Jenkins slammed 20 kills against just three attack errors to hit .340 for the match, while Bellinger posted a team-leading .353 percentage by belting 15 kills with just three errors. Alexa Swann added nine kills and Lauren Talley contributed eight for the Blue Hens, whose .272 hitting percentage was their highest since the second match of the season.

Erin Layne handed out 49 assists during the victory, while Taylor Hollingsworth led the way defensively with 28 digs.

Delaware snapped a five-match losing skid to UNCW.

College soccer

WOMEN, Delaware 0, Drexel 0: The Blue Hens, who needed a win to earn a spot in next week’s six-team CAA Tournament field, fell just short with the tie.

Delaware ends the season with an overall mark of 4-13-1 and a conference mark of 3-5-1 to finish eighth in the standings. The Hens, who defeated regular-season champion Northeastern 2-1 on Sept. 23 and tied league runner-up Drexel, failed to advance to the tournament for just the second time in the last six seasons.

The Dragons outshot the Hens by a 22-11 margin but Delaware got an outstanding game in goal from junior Kailyn Rekos, who turned back nine shots. She finished with a league-high 110 saves on the season, the second highest total in UD history and most since Melissa Kulp had a school-record 152 in 1996.

College golf

UD second at Rehoboth: The Blue Hen women’s golf team closed out its fall season by finishing in second place at the Delaware Invitational this weekend at Rehoboth Beach Country Club.

Delaware fired a 305 score during Sunday’s final round, tying for the low round of the day with Seton Hall, to place second out of 10 squads with a three-round total of 930. Harvard captured the team title for the second consecutive year with a 920 score for the weekend.

UD senior Vitoria Teixeira enjoyed the best round of the day by a Blue Hen, as she carded a two-over par 73 on the par 71, 6,008-yard RBCC course, finishing in a tie for second place with a 15 over par 78-77-73-228. Anna Zhou of Harvard earned medalist honors with a 10 over par 223, while Ashleigh Greenham of Rutgers and Teixeira each finished five shots back.
