Nanticoke-Laurel swept two games from Milford on Thursday night to win the state title in Junior League softball.
The District III champions won by scores of 11-1 and 14-4 to capture the two-team, best-of-three se-ries played at Harrington.
New Castle County’s District II did not have a representative this year.
Nanticoke-Laurel advances to the East Regional, which begins on July 21 in Orange, Conn.
Major League
Canal 3, Camden-Wyoming 2: Camden-Wyoming fell in extra innings in the Major League softball state tournament on Thursday night.
Sydney Hatch went 2-for-3 for Camden-Wyoming while Olivia Saborio and Ashlyn Schmidt each went 1-for-1. Saborio also doubled.
Olivia Maranucci paced Canal with a 3-for-4 performance.
BASEBALL
Major League
Felton-Harrington 5, Smyrna-Clayton 2: Felton-Harrington stayed alive in the losers’ bracket with the victory on Wednesday night.
Kai Rivera and Brett Cliffinger had two hits apiece with Rueben Marquess adding a double for Felton-Harrington. Cole Miller and Logan Mayle combined to throw a five-hitter with nine strikeouts.
Pitcher Sean Keener struck out seven for Smyrna-Clayton.
8-10 tournament
Felton-Harrington 18, Dover 7: Brock Robbins had four hits and scored four runs as Felton-Harrington win in the losers’ bracket in a game played on Wednesday night.
T.J. Hooks (2 runs) and Landon Jefferson (1 run) both added three hits while Colton Wyatt had two hits and scored four times. Pitcher Elijah Benson allowed only two runs in four innings.
For Dover, Trevor Ridgeway had two hits and scored a run while Hunter Strauss scored twice.
Local softball
Wesley announces camp: The Wesley College softball team announced on Thursday the date for the 2017 Wolverine Softball Skills and Prospect Camp.
The one-day camp is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18 at DuPont Softball Field and Wesley West Field-house with check-in starting at 8 a.m.
This camp is designed for skilled softball players to advance their level of play and showcase their abili-ties for Wesley College coaches.
This camp will emphasize mechanical and technical skills which include hitting, fielding, pitch-ing/catching and base running.
The camp fee is $115 and registration includes a t-shirt and lunch.
The camp is limited to 52 participants and registration will be accepted until Nov. 1st or until the 52-person limit is reached.
