Milford High won the final two individual matches to put away a 38-27 victory over Caesar Rodney in wrestling on Wednesday night.

With the Buccaneers leading 31-27, Alex Creasey (152 pounds) posted a major decision before Khiry Hovington (160) ended the match with a victory by decision.

Milford (2-0) also won a pair of matches by pins as Bryon Wynes (285) and Michael Edwards (132) both won by fall.

After falling behind 22-0 after five matches, the Riders (0-2) rallied with pins from Michael Primo (106), Cameron Hayes (120), Mason Harrington (126) and Jackson Dean (138).

Smyrna 61, Laurel 14: The Eagles improved to 2-0 overall with the victory on Wednesday.

Boys’ basketball

Wicomico 63, Delmar 29: The Wildcats remained winless with the nonconference loss.

Sussex Central 72, Del. Public Safety & Security 71: The Golden Knights (1-5) built an 11-point halftime lead before holding on for their first win of the season.

Ethan Lambert netted a team-high 19 points, sinking three of Central’s seven three-pointers. Ryhlee Matthews added 17 points with Jahlier Pettyjohn scoring 11.

Girls’ basketball

St. Elizabeth 58, Dover 35: The Senators dropped a nonconference decision on Tuesday night.

College basketball

WOMEN, Hartford 67, Delaware 66: Despite shooting a season-best 50 percent from the field, the Blue Hens committed a season-high 21 turnovers en route to the nonconference loss.

Delaware, which had four players in double figures, converted on 25 of 50 field goal attempts while also going 10-of-11 from the free throw line. But Hartford registered 19 points off of UD turnovers, including a crucial offensive foul which turned into a three-point play for the Hawks with 14 seconds left.

Sophomore Nicole Enabosi led the Hens (6-5) with 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Former America East foes, Hartford snapped a seven-game losing streak to Delaware.

Wednesday’s game was the only contest in a 21-day span for the Hens due to final exams and the impending holiday break.

La Salle 78, Delaware State 38: The Explorers tallied the game’s first eight points and never trailed in the contest, outscoring DSU 17-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-point lead into halftime.

The 40-point win surpassed a 78-41 defeat of Massachusetts (Jan. 11, 2014) as the largest margin of victory under coach Jeff Williams.

Amy Griffin led the Explorers (7-4) with 22 points, six assists and five rebounds. Adreana Miller added 17 points while Shalina Miller poured in a season-high 14 points and four blocks.

The La Salle defense smothered the Hornets, limiting Delaware State to just four points in the second quarter and seven points in the fourth.

Jasmine Alston had a game-high eight points and nine rebounds to go along with two points and three steals for the Hornet (1-9).

College soccer

Prillaman earns Va. honor: Caesar Rodney High grad Lexi Prillaman, a junior on the Richmond women’s soccer team, was a first-team selection on the Virginia Sports Information Directors Women’s Soccer All-State team.

Prillaman capped off a breakout season with the first All-State honor of her career. The junior attacker started all 19 games and led the Spiders with 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points, all of which placed her in the top five in the conference.

The team captain also earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors.
