Milford High collected seven pins on its way to a 57-21 victory over Woodbridge in Henlopen Conference Southern Division wrestling on Wednesday evening.

Bevensky Augustine (182 pounds) had a 27-second fall for the Buccaneers’ quickest fall of the night while Robbie Rosser (120), Alex Creasey (145) and Dominyc Hovington (220) also recorded pins in under a minute.

Milford also received pins from Oscar Rosario (138),  Eric Bennett (195) and Bryan Wynes (285).

The Blue Raiders’ Jordan James (170) had a 20-second pin for the quickest fall of the match. Jerome Cannon (106) also had a pin for Woodbridge,

Lake Forest 53, Seaford 30: After the Blue Jays reeled off three straight pins, the Spartans answered with six falls in the final 10 matches to take the Henliopen South match.

Kurt Moyer (132), Dean Flemming (138), Justin Cale (145), Gaij Copes (170), Michael Galloway (220) and Jordan Springer (285) all won by pin for Lake Forest.

Tashawn Brooks (126) had a 10-second fall for the Blue Jays with Elton Joseph (113) and Monshaun Bennefield (182) also posting pins.

Sussex Central 72, Sussex Tech 3: The Golden Knights collected nine pins in the decisive Henlopen North victory.

Winning by fall for Sussex Central were Devin Pearsal (145), Brandon Bautista (160), Blake Chambers (170), Yunior Cryz (182), Lucas Hudson (195), John Morris (220), Jevon Saffold (106), Junior Perez (120) and Brandon Greenlee (132).

Girls’ basketball

Milford 43, Cape Henlopen 32: Rajene Bowe and Jameshia Baker each netted 14 points as the Buccaneers improved to 3-0 in a game played on Tuesday night.

Alexis Watkins led the Vikings with 12 points and Alia Marshall chipped in 11.

Boys’ basketball

Delmarva Christian 54, Holly Grove 43: The Royals opened up a 25-8 halftime lead en route to the victory.

Joshua Vonhof netted 15 points with Christopher Vonhof adding 12 points for Delmarva Christian.

Seaford 36, Delmarva Christian 32: Andrez Jones paced the Blue Jays with 12 points in a victory on Tuesday night.

Andrew Workman and Josh Vonhof scored nine points apiece for the Royals.

College basketball

MEN, Wesley 63, York 58: Brian Cameron came off the bench to net a game-high 19 points to pace the Wolverines to the Capital Athletic Conference victory.

Wesley (3-1 CAC, 4-4 overall), which led 32-19 at halftime, also got double-digit scoring from Paul Clemmons (15 points) and Rasahn Brinkley (10 points, 11 rebounds).

Cameron sank 7-of-11 shots from the floor, including 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range.

The Spartans outscored Wesley by eight points in the second half but never got closer than five after intermission.

WOMEN, York 75, Wesley 52: The Wolverines fell behind early and never caught up in the Capital Athletic Conference loss.

Brionna Johnson (Smyrna) finished with a double-double, putting up 11 points and adding 11 rebounds. Tiyanna Gibbs scored 12 points and finished with three steals for Wesley.

Alexus Stroud (Smyrna) and Stacey O’Neale each added nine points for the Wolverines (1-3 CAC, 5-4 overall).

In the first quarter, the Wolverines went shot just 1-for-18 from the floor as they fell behind 20-4.

Wesley mourns Wentworth: On Wednesday afternoon the Wesley College athletic department and the Wesley College men’s basketball program lost a legend when former head coach Jim Wentworth passed away.

A Wesley Hall of Famer, Wentworth was the Wolverines’ head men’s basketball coach for 41 years. The 1959 graduate of Pfieffer College (N.C.) compiled 502 wins and 465 losses after taking over in 1961.

In 1997-98, he guided the Wolverines to a record of 16-8, earning their first regional ranking since joining NCAA Division III in 1986. Wesley captured the ESAC title in 1987 and the ESAC Southern Division crown in 1988 under Wentworth’s guidance.

He also coached the Wolverines to a 394-225 mark during the school’s junior college era.

Wentworth served as Wesley’s athletic director and he was a tenured professor in the college’s physical education department. Due to their contributions to Wesley College, the school’s gymnasium bears the name of he and his wife Shirley.

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Wentworth,” said Wesley College AD Mike Drass. “He meant so much to so many students, staff, and faculty at Wesley. His legacy lives on through the lives that he touched.”
