The Milford High boys’ basketball team was edged 37-34 by St. Mark’s in a nonconference contest on Friday night.

The Buccaneers dropped to 6-4 on the season. Tymire Riddick was Milford’s top scorer on Friday with nine points.

Indian River 52, Laurel 40: Freshman Kevin Custis paced the Indians to the Henlopen Conference Southern Division victory with 11 points.

UD has a pair drafted: Guillermo Delgado received the most important scarf of his life Friday afternoon as the forward was drafted 27th overall by the Chicago Fire in the second round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.

“Chicago is a beautiful city; they have a great coaching staff,” Delgado commented.  “I’m excited and thrilled to give everything I can on the field.  I had a tremendous four years at Delaware. Thank you to my coaches and my teammates.  Without them, I wouldn’t be able to be here and pursue my dream of playing soccer for a living.”

Delgado joins Evans Frimpong ’12 as the lone Blue Hens to ever be drafted in the MLS Draft.  Frimpong was selected ninth overall in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Chicago Fire.  He most recently was a member of the Oklahoma City Energy and Puerto Rico FC.

“I am thrilled for Guillermo,” remarked Delaware head coach Ian Hennessy. “It’s a wonderful honor to be drafted in what has been a very exciting MLS SuperDraft today. It’s the perfect end to a record-setting year and career that saw him end as the top active scorer in the NCAA. We couldn’t be prouder of him. With this MLS achievement for a UD player, I want to acknowledge the work of my assistants Jon Scheer and Roberto Giménez who did so much work recruiting Guillermo and helping him mature as a player over a terrific college career at the University of Delaware.”

One of 66 prospects to take part in the 2017 adidas MLS Player Combine this week, Delgado led Team Control to a 2-1-0 record and tallied one goal in 131 minutes played.

Delgado, the 2016 CAA Player of the Year, earned NSCAA All-America recognition for the fourth consecutive year, landing a spot on the Third Team this past season. He also received his fourth consecutive selection to the All-CAA First Team and fourth straight spot on the NSCAA All-Midwest Region First Team after posting 12 goals, eight assists and 32 points to lead the Blue Hens to the CAA Championship and berth in the NCAA Championship.

The nation’s active career leader in points (117) and goals (49) finished his four-year career in a Blue Hens uniform as the school’s all-time leader in five statistical categories: points, goals, assists (19), game-winning goals (17) and shots (282). In addition, Delgado made his mark in the CAA record book, finishing his career tied for fifth all-time in goal and sixth in points, becoming the first player since 2003 to record at least 40 goals and 100 points.

Midfielder Thomas de Villardi was also drafted out of UD. He was selected in the second round with the 42nd overall pick by expansion team Minnesota United.
