Recent Smyrna High grad John Barkley pitched a one-hitter in one game then went 2-for-4 in another to help Middletown Post 30 to a doubleheader sweep of Delvets Post 1 in an American Legion baseball doubleheader on Saturday.

Middletown Post 30 won the opener 7-0 and the second game 9-1 to improve to 10-0. Another Smyrna High product, Ryan Seymour went 2-for-4 in the first game.

Camden-Wyoming 12, Dover 2: Mason Wrede and Mason Bush each scored three runs with a pair of hits while Brian Harrison went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the first round matchup.

Dylan Chadwick threw a complete game in the victory.

Deak Deakins tournament

Smyrna-Clayton 16, Camden-Wyoming Gold 12: Smyrna-Clayton scored four runs in the top of the final inning for a win in its opening game.

Kyle Davis paced the Smyrna-Clayton offense with a home run, four RBI while going 4-for-4. Trevor Ogden (3 RBI) and Liam Conway (2 RBI) also went 4-for-4 for Smyrna-Clayton.

For Camden-Wyoming Gold, Will Lorentz had two doubles with three RBI, Rett Lancaster drove in three on three hits and Ronald Barry was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

M.O.T. Blue 20, Dover 16: Ian Keane and Sawyer Denham each homered and tripled on their way to 4-for-4 days for M.O.T. Blue while J.R. Montgomery also went 4-for-4 and added four runs with a double.

Austin Chambers (4-for-4) and Chase Greene (3-for-4) each scored three runs.

M.O.T. Red 15, Marydel-Hartly 1: Stephan Radovanovic doubled in all three of his at-bats while Jimmy Apicella went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Cole Simpson scored three times.

Nick Dehorty had a hit and scored Marydel-Hartly’s lone run.

M.O.T. White 17, Felton-Harrington Blue 7: Anthony Ciaffi was 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park homer and three RBI. Eddie Stranahan added a double, a triple and two RBI.

Blake Kohout was 2-for-3 with two runs for Felton-Harrington Blue.

Walt Bowers tournament

Felton-Harrington 17, Dover 0: Logan Mayle went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles and six RBI in Felton-Harrington’s four-inning victory.

Drake Robbins went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and four RBI while Brett Clippinger and Kai Riveria each had an inside-the-park homer. David Lewis, Quinton Marks and Quade Gannon combined to pitch the one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts.

M.O.T. Red 15, Camden-Wyoming 7: Dakota Herr led M.O.T. Red’s offensive output with two runs scored with a 2-for-2 performance.

8-9 softball

Smyrna-Calyton White 15, M.O.T. Red 14: Kendall Smith went 3-for-3, Jayden Jones doubled and Jaelyn Johnston went 2-for-3 in the victory.

For M.O.T. Red, Eliza Atherton went 3-for-3 and Kylie Bendler doubled.

Smyrna-Clayton Red 18, Camden-Wyoming Blue 2: Alexis Steele homered, Simone Edge and Alexis Mathis tripled and Briana Kalb went 3-for-3 to lead Smyrna-Clayton Red.

Felton-Harrington 40, Camden-Wyoming Gold 1: Stephanie Scratcher’s grand slam highlighted Felton-Harrington’s offense.

College basketball

Hens officially announce two recruits: University of Delaware men’s basketball head coach Martin Ingelsby has announced that high school standouts Ryan Daly and Jacob Cushing have signed with the Blue Hens and will join the program this fall.

Daly, a 6-4 guard from Havertown, Pa., was named the 2016 Philadelphia Catholic League MVP while playing at Archbishop Carroll High School, also Ingelsby’s alma mater. He averaged 21.7 points and seven rebounds per game during his senior year, while connecting on 65 three-pointers. The 2016 Daily Times Player of the Year, Daly led Archbishop Carroll to a 23-4 record, a berth in the Catholic League finals, and to the second round of the PIAA 3A tournament as a senior.

“Ryan was an extremely important piece to get onboard to start our 2016 recruiting class,” Ingelsby said. “He was the Philadelphia Catholic League Player of the Year this past season, and brings a toughness and winning pedigree to our basketball program. He has good size and an impressive all-around skill set that fits our needs and how we want to play. I love what he is going to bring to our basketball team.”

Cushing, a 6-8 forward from Naperville, Ill., was a second team Naperville Sun All-City pick as a senior at Neuqua Valley High School. He averaged 13 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field. As a junior Cushing earned All-DuPage Valley Conference honors, when he led the squad to a 28-5 record.

“Jacob is an athletic wing who will be a great fit in our system,” Ingelsby stated. “His shooting ability and basketball IQ were highly attractive to me as we added to the 2016 class. I like the versatility that he brings to our roster along with his size and skill. He has a very bright future in our program.”
