The Lake Forest High softball team scored eight runs in the first inning on its way to a 14-4 road victory over Caravel Academy in a nonconference contest on Saturday afternoon.

Brooke Glanden went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI to pace the Spartans. Kerrigan Simpson also belted a homer for Lake and picked up the win on the mound.

Faith Garey drove in five runs and doubled twice.

Baseball

Milford 12, Sussex Tech 2: Abraham Mow had two home runs, including a grand slam, to help the Buccaneers down Sussex Tech on Saturday.

Milford scored eight runs in the top of seventh to blow the game open.

Boys’ lacrosse

Smyrna 9, St. Georges 4: Jake Kaiser’s hat trick carried the Eagles to the nonconference victory.

Jake Soroko and Hunter McGuire added a pair of goals apiece for Smyrna.

College baseball

Delaware 17, Hofstra 7: Catcher Brian Mayer went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and six RBI in Delaware’s CAA victory.

The Blue Hens (19-14, 6-5 CAA) produced their 11th game of 10 runs or more and produced their 19th game of 10 plus hits.

Reliever James Meeker continued his strong work on the mound, producing four innings of one-run ball in relief of Kevin Milley who went just three innings.

Meeker earned his team-leading fourth win.

DSU sweeps at Coppin: The Hornets won a road doubleheader against Coppin State, 13-6 and 5-3.

Dover High grad Garrett Lawson recorded the victory in the first game. DelState was led offensively by Jared Gillis, a Smyrna High product, who homered and drove in three runs.

Jaylen Zielecki had three hits, tripled twice and recorded four RBI in the opener.

Darnell Maisonet went 2-for-3 in the nightcap and scored twice. Milford High product Tommy Jordan scored once and had one RBI. Sean McGrath pitched five innings with five strikeouts to earn the win.

Wesley splits with Marymount: The Wolverines fell in 10 innings 5-4 but won the second contest 20-8 in a CAC matchup.

Trey Mears hit two home runs and drove in five runs in the second game. Cody Dmiterchik also had five RBI while Will Barton knocked in a pair.

Chris Seibert, Mike Calvarese, Aaron Briggs, William Foster and John Joines also drove in one run apiece.

Men’s lacrosse

Towson 10, Delaware 6: Delaware was out-shot 35-24 and fell in the final regular season home game of longtime coach Bob Shillinglaw’s career.

The game was tied 5-5 before the Tigers scored five unanswered goals. Charlie Kitchen and Joe Eisle netted a pair of goals each for Delaware.

Southern Virginia 14, Wesley 9: Wesley had an early 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter but dropped its finale game of the season.

Josh Wassum led Wesley with four goals and an assist. Wassum also scooped up six ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Hunter Coho, Zach Weitzel, Leo Kelly, Will Fingles, Nate Gemmato each tallied goals in the loss. Kelly and Joe Fingles notched two assists respectively.

On defense, Alex Collins picked up six ground balls and caused three turnovers while Gemmato, Coho and Ben Mitzel each recorded two caused turnovers.

James Cella had a game-high 17 saves in goal for Wesley.

College softball

James Madison 15, Delaware 1: The 15th-ranked James Madison softball team erupted for 15 runs on 11 hits.

The Dukes (37-6, 10-2 CAA) struck first in the top of the second inning when Kierstin Roadcap smacked a three-run homer, before JMU added five runs in the top of the third. Taylor Newton and Odicci Alexander had RBI singles during the rally, while Niki Prince contributed a two-run double.

Delaware (17-21, 5-7 CAA) scored its lone run during the bottom of the fifth, when Alyshia Dellatore led off with a double and came around to score on a double by Devon Steiner.

Wolverines swept at York: Wesley dropped a pair of games, 7-0 and 7-1.

Megan DiRubbio, Nina Marcano, Lauren Hoffman and Brooke Retkowski each tallied hits in game one. Hoffman knocked a double to left center field in the seventh inning.

In the nightcap, Marcano went 3-for-3 with a double and a solo homer. Hoffman notched another double in the second game while Karina Cardona chipped in with a pinch-hit single in the sixth inning.

College golf

UD women in first at CAAs: Delaware, attempting to defend its conference title from a year ago, fired a 295 on Saturday to move into first place with a two-round total of 601. UNCW sits in second place at 603, followed by Charleston at 604 and Towson at 607. James Madison is fifth with a 615 score, ahead of Elon (624), William & Mary (627) and Hofstra (668).

Blue Hen freshman Ariane Klotz shot an even par 72 to match her career-low during her second round on the par 72, 6,113-yard Blue Heron Course at Ford’s Colony Country Club, finishing the day tied for fourth place with a four over par 76-72-148. Klotz birdied the first, 10th and 17th holes during her round, while adding 12 pars on the day.

Wesley continues at conference meet: Dylan Chessher remains in the top 10 of the CAC with an 81 on the day and a two-day total of 156. Eric Speidel sits in 13th place also shooting an 81 today to total 161.

Matt Maskell climbed three spots to 16th place, shooting a two-day total of 166. Tyler Spielberger is in a tie for 20th with 170 while Josh Covey is in 31st place recording a 185.

As a team, Wesley is in a tie for fourth place with Marymount (Va.) with a team score of 653
