Roundup: Lake Forest, Smyrna play to scoreless tie

The Smyrna High and Lake Forest High field hockey teams played to a scoreless draw on Thursday afternoon as the matchup ended 0-0.

Smyrna outshot the Spartans 19-4 and held a 9-6 edge in penalty corners but couldn’t find a way by Lake goalie Allison Bishop, who made 10 saves.

Elana Montejo recorded six saves for Smyrna.

Dover 4, Sussex Central 0: Kristen Adkins scored twice and assisted once to lead the Senators to a Henlopen Conference Northern Division victory.

Jada Bogle and Mira Prisco also scored for Dover (2-0). Brooklyn Peete made seven saves for the shutout.

Cape Henlopen 4, Caesar Rodney 0: Tess Bernheimer scored two first half goals to lift the Vikings.

Sussex Tech 2, Milford 2: Kelsey Ketterman had a pair of goals for Sussex Tech while the Buccaneers were led by Hayden Shoc.

Indian River 8, Laurel 0: Madison McGee netted four goals in the Indians’ Henlopen South win.

Alexis Haden, Emma-Lee Merrick, Sarah King and Kaleigh Cordrey added a goal apiece for Indian River (2-0).

Woodbridge 7, Seaford 0: The Blue Raiders earned the South victory with a shutout on Thursday.

Boys’ soccer

Polytech 5, Dover 2: John Riggins scored twice and added an assist as the Panthers defeated Dover for their third-straight win to begin the season.

Bryce Wahinya, Anthony Flamer and Iosif Drane all scored in the second half for Polytech.

Dover got a pair of goals from Jordan Hutchins.

Caesar Rodney 7, Sussex Central 2: The Riders rallied from a goal down twice and broke open a 2-2 game with five goals in the second half.

Chris McPoyle scored four of CR’s goals. The others were by Osama Mahmoud, Joshua Bennett and Caleb Hellman.

Cape Henlopen 4, Smyrna 0: Drew Mulcahy and Zach Gelof each netted a pair of goals as Cape improved to 4-0 to start the year.

Milford 6, Seaford 1: The Buccaneers earned the victory in Henlopen South play Thursday evening.

Volleyball

Polytech 3, Dover 0: Kaylee Williams recorded 11 kills as the Panthers won the Henlopen North contest 25-13, 26-24 and 25-14.

Emily Campbell also had six kills to lead Polytech (3-0).

Caesar Rodney 3, Sussex Central 1: Sara Cessna’s 13 kills helped the Riders to a 25-9, 25-12, 24-26 and 25-13 victory in four sets on Thursday,

Smyrna 3, Cape Henlopen 0: The Eagles won the three sets 25-14, 25-13 and 27-25.

Lake Forest 3, Woodbridge 0: The Spartans won the Henlopen South matchup in straight sets on Thursday.

Milford 3, Seaford 0: Set scores were 25-7, 25-7 and 25-7 as the Buccaneers won in straight sets.

Women’s soccer

Shenandoah 1, Wesley 0: The Wolverine fell thanks to a free kick from 35-yards out which gave Shenandoah the game’s only goal.

Chelsea Marriner made a career-high 16 saves in net for Wesley but still took the loss.
