Madison Brengle has posted her share of memorable accomplishments as a pro tennis player.
But on Monday the 27-year-old from Dover added another feat to her resume when she picked up her first career victory at historic Wimbledon.
Brengle opened the Grand Slam tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Richel Hogenkamp of The Netherlands in the women’s singles draw.
The match lasted only one hour, six minutes. Brengle, who lost first-round matches at Wimbledon in each of the past two years, took four of 10 break points.
Hogenkamp, ranked No. 104 in the world, made 36 unforced errors in the match. She is now 0-3 all-time against Brengle.
Things don’t get any easier for Brengle, who is currently ranked No. 95 in the world. On Wednesday, she faces No. 11 Petra Kvitova at the All England Club.
