A 10-goal first quarter led Dover High to a 20-2 nonconference boys’ lacrosse victory on Friday night over Red Lion Christian Academy.

The Senators were up 10-1 after the first quarter and 15-2 at halftime.

Dover improved to 8-4 on the season. The Senators have won four of their last six contest.

Cape Henlopen 8, Tower Hill 4: Patrick Monigle netted three goals to help pace the Vikings to a nonconference win.

The Vikings trailed early before reeling off five unanswered goals to take control.

Appoquinimink 16, Caesar Rodney 4: The Riders dropped a game on the road on Friday.

Noah Longest, Jacob Pangle, Jacob Copio and Jared Wagenhoffer provided the CR goals.

Archmere 20, Milford 7: Conor Christie, Jonathan Gaglione and Alex Herka each scored twice but it wasn’t enough as the Buccaneers fell to Archmere.

Baseball

Sussex Central 8, James Bennett, Md. 3: A four-run first inning helped Sussex Central win a game played at Shorebirds Stadium in Salisbury, Md.

Trey Toppin pitched six innings with eight strikeouts. Toppin also led the offensive attack going 2-for-3 with a walk. Tyler Stanley drove in two runs while Ethan Watkinson, Dorin Emerick, Hunter Marvel and Kyle Briggs each had one RBI.

Cade Keeler added a pair of stolen bases and scored twice.

Sussex Central 7, Dover 0: Dorin Emerick threw a complete game scattering five hits in a game contested on Thursday.

Tyler Stanley led the Golden Knights offensively going 3-for-4 with a double. Cade Keeler drove in three runs on a double in the third inning.

Softball

Lake Forest 14, St. Mark’s 4: Kerrigan Simpson had a big day on the mound and at the plate to lead Lake Forest to a nonconference win on Thursday.

Simpson struck out nine while going 3-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI. Faith Garey and Mya Maddox each tripled for Lake Forest.

Women’s lacrosse

James Madison 11, Delaware 10: Delaware looked to upset James Madison for the second time in less than two weeks, but the No. 20/19 Dukes pulled out the CAA semifinals victory in overtime Friday evening.

Down by four with less than 11 minutes remaining in regulation, the Blue Hens posted four straight goals to force overtime against top-seeded JMU.

With 2:07 left on the clock, junior Becky Gohsler recorded her second goal of the game and 36th goal of the season to keep Delaware’s hopes alive. She added a team-best five draw controls to go along with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

CAA Player of the Year Haley Warden scored the golden goal, her lone of the game, just a minute into OT. The Dukes advance to Sunday’s championship final for the fourth straight season.

Sophomore Caroline Farley led the offensive attack with her first career hat trick, including two tallies of the team’s final four goals of the game.

Senior Jamie Schwartz contributed three points on two assists and a goal while junior Megan Santoleri registered two goals of her own.

Junior goalie Taylor Carpentier collected another huge game with 12 saves, including eight in the first half.

College baseball

North Carolina State 7, Delaware 1: The Hens managed just seven hits in the defeat to open up their weekend series.

The Hens’ scored its lone run of the evening in the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk drawn by catcher Brian Mayer. Mayer walked twice and recorded a single in the loss

Delaware (24-19) starter Nick Spadafino (Dover High) started off strong Friday night, as the righty did not allow a run through the first two innings of his outing.

In the third, Spadafino allowed a solo home run to Wolfpack (26-20) second baseman Will Wilson. After the Hens tied the game on the walk in the fourth, Spadafino allowed a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame.

The game remained 3-1 NC State until the bottom of sixth when the ‘Pack struck for three runs on a pair of errors. NC State added a run in the eight to run its margin to 7-1.

In the loss, Calvin Scott extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
