Camryn Dennis scored six goals as the Polytech High girls’ lacrosse team earned a 14-2 victory over Dover High on Wednesday.

Madilyn McKay had five goals for the Panthers (3-1) while Madison Knight netted a pair. Cecilia Carter had the other tally for Polytech.

Riley McQuaide and Grace Gast provided the two goals for Dover (2-4)

Caesar Rodney 13, Sussex Tech 8: Lillian Ayers paced the Riders with seven goals in the Henlopen Conference win.

Madeline Bennett and Sawyer Walker each had a two-goal game while Walker also contributed three assists.

Cape Henlopen 18, Smyrna 2: Cailey Thornburg scored six goals and added three assists to lead the Vikings to their fourth straight victory.

Kaitlyn Klabe and Chloe Schaeffer added hat tricks for Cape.

Boys’ lacrosse

Caesar Rodney 22, Sussex Tech 4: Joshua Cosden’s nine goals helped the Riders over the Ravens.

Demetrius Stevenson netted six goals for CR while Jacob Copio recorded a hat trick.

Cape Henlopen 18, Smyrna 3: Greg Boyce scored three goals and added seven assists in the Cape Henlopen victory. Jaycob Trimmer also scored three goals.

Softball

Nandua, Va. 4, Indian River 3: The Indians dropped a game to an out of state opponent on Tuesday.

Braydee Whitman and Marley Evans both went 2-for-4 for the Indians while Nicole Patille struck out seven.

College baseball

UMBC 5, Delaware 4: A five run fourth inning pushed host UMBC past Delaware 5-4 in non-league action.

The Blue Hens (15-12) mustered just one earned run off four UMBC relievers and dropped their second straight. The Retrievers avenged a 17-6 setback to Delaware back on Mar. 7 in Newark.

Delaware took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as the Blue Hens took advantage of a pair of Retriever errors.

Nick Patten walked and Kyle Baker followed with a single to left field. Shortstop James Meeker then grounded to Christian Torres, but the third baseman threw the ball away and Patten scored the game’s first run.

Baker later scored on a bunt single by Mohollen and Meeker scored on an RBI groundout by Tyler Callender.

La Salle 4, Delaware State 2: La Salle scored three times in the eighth to break a 1-1 tie and defeat the Hornets in a nonconference matchup.

Jared Gillis, a Smyrna High product, provided the first DSU run with a home run to lead off the fourth inning. It was the first homer of the freshman’s career.

Delaware State scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Darnel Maisonet in the top of the ninth inning to pull to within two.

La Salle outhit DSU 7-3 in the game.

College softball

Wesley swept by Salisbury: The Wolverines dropped games, 1-0 and 2-0 to Salisbury.

Lindsay Siok only gave up one unearned run in game one as the Seagulls picked up the 1-0 win over the Wolverines. Siok only allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four to earn a complete game.

Siok gave up two hits while allowing two walks and two runs (one earned) in another complete-game effort.

Brooke Retkowski went 2-for-3 while Casey Beall and Devin Mackay each recorded a hit for the Wolverines in the nightcap.

College lacrosse

MEN, York 21, Wesley 0: The Wolverines fell at third-ranked York (Pa.) Spartans in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action.

James Cella made 22 saves for the Wolverines. Mitch Griffith and Hunter Coho each picked up two ground balls.

WOMEN, York 18, Wesley 1: Fallon Fore netted the lone tally for the Wolverines against seventh-ranked York in a CAC contest.

Brianna Bacon caused the turnover in the midfield with seven minutes to go in regulation and threw it to Fore, who converted the Wesley marker.

Fore, Bacon, Allison Perugini and Paige Brehm each registered two ground balls for Wesley. Shelby Schirmer stopped six shots in goal.

College golf

Hens’ Gianniny wins weekly award: Delaware junior Jack Gianniny was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after his impressive performance at the Manor Intercollegiate last weekend.

Gianniny tied for the individual lead at the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, before falling on the first playoff hole. He fired a three under par 69-73-71-213 on the par 72, 7,246-yard course at The Manor Golf Club, leading the Blue Hens to a third place team finish.

Gianniny’s opening round 69 was his third lowest of the season, while his 213 score was the second lowest three-round total of the year. He posted his team-leading fourth top-10 finish of the year, and leads the Blue Hens with a 72.30 average round this season. Gianniny earned his third career CAA Men’s Golf of the Week honor, and his first this year.
