Delaware cruised to an early lead and never looked back Sunday afternoon for a 69-53 Colonial Athletic Association victory over William & Mary in women’s basketball at Kaplan Arena.

The Blue Hens (13-11, 8-5 CAA) logged a season-high 28 points in the first quarter before jumping out to a 45-28 lead at halftime.

Senior Courtni Green posted a game-high 20 points with five three-pointers to go along with five rebounds and two assists. With her performance, the guard moved into 16th place in program history with 1,124 career points.

“It is absolutely huge when you can grab a win on the road in this conference,” said Delaware coach Tina Martin. “I can’t say enough about our effort this afternoon. Our defense was terrific and the kids did a great job following the game plan. To hold William & Mary to 53 points on their home court is tremendous.

“Offensively, we shared the ball well and our shooters were knocking it down. I’m happy with this win, but we have to keep climbing. The journey doesn’t get any easier over the next few weeks.”

Junior Erika Brown added 19 points, five rebounds and four assists while freshman Nicole Enabosi posted her fourth double double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Delaware, which has won three of its last four games, outrebounded William & Mary, 37-24.

The Hens shot a season-best 48.0 percent (24-of-50) from the floor.

College swimming

Downstaters shine in meet: Caesar Rodney High grad Aaron Green, a freshman at Widener, won two events in record-breaking fashion at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday,

Green set school records in the 100-yard butterfly and 100 back by registering times of 51.49 and 50.87 seconds, respectively, to help Widener enter the final day of competition 46 points ahead of five-time reigning champion Albright. His mark in the 100 back to conclude the night was also an NCAA provisional standard.

In addition, Green began the evening session by swimming a leg in the winning 200 free relay, which posted a meet-record time of 1:23.81.

Also at the meet, former Dover High standout Brianna Hand-Solomon placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.54. The freshman for Hood College also swam on the 400-yard medley and 800-yard relay teams, which both placed fifth.

College lacrosse

WOMEN, Presbyterian 20, Delaware State 11: The Hornets had their highest opening-day scoring output in the program’s four seasons, but it was not enough in the loss on Saturday.

Six players scored for the Hornets, led by Iman Hassan’s career-high four goals. Hassan also had a team-leading two assists in the contest.

Freshman Olivia Summerville scored twice and posted an assist in her collegiate debut, while Lauren Perry also put two into the net for DSU.

Nicole McCombs, Kayla Yurkanin and freshman Rachel Slater rounded out the Hornets’ scoring with one goal each.

Girls’ basketball

Delmarva Christian 45, Wilm. Christian 38: The Royals overcame an early 11-point deficit to pick up the victory on Saturday.

Kirah Harmon, Elizabeth Stevens and Ashlee McCoy all had 11 points for Delmarva Christian, which outscored the Warriors 41-23 over the final three quarters.
