Freshman Aleya Cummings netted a pair of goals to lift Wesley College to a 2-0 victory over Rosemont College in women’s soccer on Wednesday evening.

With her two goals on Wednesday night, the Caesar Rodney High grad has scored 10 times in her past four games. She entered the game tied for first in Division III in goals per game (2.00) and tied for third in total goals (8).

It didn’t take long for Cummings to find the net in the second half. Just 21 seconds into the half, the freshman tore through the Rosemont defense and netted an unassisted score to put Wesley ahead 1-0.

In the 67th minute, Aline Check gathered a ball out of the back and fed Cummings again as she slipped behind the defense. The left-footed striker finished off the break, netting a goal that put the Wolverines (3-2) ahead 2-0.

The Wesley defense held off the Rosemont attack as Sam Brannigan made five saves to preserve the shutout, her third of the season.

Delaware State 2, St. Peter’s 0: The Hornets scored twice in the first 18 minutes and their goal keepers combined for 11 saves as DSU (2-4) won for the second time in the last three contests.

DelState went up 1-0 in the 10th minute (9:49) when Braxton Clark scored her first career goal from close range off a corner kick from fellow freshman Jasmine Warren.

It took the Hornets less than eight minutes to double their lead. This time it was Warren who scored her first career goal on a shot from 20 yards away that bounced over the head of the St. Peter’s keeper off a feed from Elise Pratt in the 18th minute (17:11).

Delaware State goal keeper Michele Lammers came up big with back-to-back saves on a kick and a header midway through the first period. She had six saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Leslie Fazio (Sussex Tech) recorded five saves in the second period, including a diving stop on a break-away midway through the frame.

The Hornets outshot the Penhens 11-5 in the contest, including 6-1 in the opening period.

MEN, Delaware 3, Seton Hall 1: Senior Guillermo Delgado had a hand in all three of the Blue Hens’ goals in the victory.

Delgado finished the game with four points on a goal and two assists and, in the process, collected his 99th career point to tie Delaware’s all-time leader, Mike Biggs (1968-70).

The forward also inched closer to Biggs’ all-time goals record of 47 as Delgado now has 42. His two assists bumped him up to 15 for his career, which ties him for fifth in the record books with former teammate, Joe Dipre (2012-15).
