Caesar Rodney High netted the only two goals of the fourth quarter to finish off a 10-6 victory over Dover in Henlopen Conference Northern Division boys’ lacrosse on Wednesday night.

The Riders led only 3-1 at halftime before both squads tallied five third-quarter goals.

Demetrius Stevenson (1 assist) scored four goals for CR (5-0 North, 9-1 overall) with Joshua Cosden and Jacob Copio (1 assist) both scoring twice.

Tyler Gross made seven saves as the Riders outshot the Senators (2-3 North, 5-3) by a 24-19 margin. CR has won six games in a row.

Dover’s Kyle Potter made 14 saves with Robert Mason (1 assist) and Thomas Gill both scoring a pair of goals.

GIRLS, Dover 9, Caesar Rodney 7: Grace Gast netted four goals as the Senators downed the rival Riders for the first time in the program’s 19-year history.

Mira Prisco and Riley McQuaide added two goals apiece with Cydney Barnes also scoring for Dover, which led 5-2 at halftime.

Britney Miller made six saves for Dover, which outshot CR, 19-13.

The Riders’ Sawyer Walker tallied four goals, Lillian Ayers (3 assists) had two while Madeline Bennett scored one. Jasmine Steele made 10 saves.

Cape Henlopen 14, Polytech 4: The Vikings limited the Panthers to a season-low four goals in earning the Henlopen Conference victory.

Lindsay Monigle tallied a game-high four goals for Cape, which led 6-2 at halftime. Chloe Schaeffer (3 assists), Alia Marshall (2 assists), Kaitlyn Klabe and Evelyn Shoop all scored twice.

Iseabal Cryne made six saves for the Vikings, who outshot Polytech, 25-10.

Cam Dennis had a pair of goals to lead the Panthers while Shae Stephan made 11 saves.

Smyrna 14, Sussex Academy 10: Juliana Kolakowski tallied six goals for the Eagles, who overcame an 8-6 halftime deficit.

Madeline Wilber added two goals from Smyrna, which got goals from eight different players. Katelynn Porter made six saves.

The Eagles outshot the Seahawks, 27-8.

Kelsey Smith had four goals for Sussex Academy with Mia Kwan scoring three. Goalie Grace Scott made 15 saves.

St. Mark’s 20, Indian River 2: Lexi Haden and Helen Davis scored goals for the Indians in the nonconference loss.

Baseball

Indian River 6, Laurel 4: Trailing 3-0, the Indians scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the second to rally for the Henlopen win.

Jacob Anderson drove in a pair of runs to tie the contest at 3-3 before the go-ahead run came home on a balk.

Perez Nichols had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Salesianum 12, Lake Forest 0: The Sals scored four runs in the first inning before finishing with 12 hits in the victory.

Coleman Morris had two of the Spartans’ five hits.

Girls’ soccer

Polytech 2, Newark 0: Jenna Morris and Sam Stafford netted first-half goals less than five minutes apart to lift the Panthers.

Woodbridge 4, Seaford 0: Janae Craft tallied three goals in the first half as the Raiders picked up a Henlopen South victory.

Brooke Joseph added a second-half goals for Woodbridge, which held advantages of 15-1 in shots and 11-1 in corner kicks.

Bethany Rankin made five saves for the Blue Jays.

College softball

Hornets, Hens split: Delaware erupted for 13 runs in the top of the seventh inning of the nightcap to earn a split with Delaware State at the Hornets Nest.

The Hornets (17-25) took the opener, 13-8, before the Blue Hens (19-24) answered with a 15-4 victory in the second game.

The Hornets tied their season high with 18 hits in game one. Jasmine Melgoza and Sabrina Quarles each went 4-for-5 with an RBI, while Desiree Moreno had two hits and three RBI.

In the nightcap, Sarah Coyne delivered a two-run double to tie the game for the Hens before Mattie Nuccio followed with a two-run single to put Delaware in front.

UD’s Mariah Kondravy finished 6-for-9 with three doubles and six RBI during the twinbill, while Alyshia Dellatore added four hits and four RBI. Delaware is now 30-7-1 all-time vs. the Hornets.

Downstaters Slater, Burton honored: After leading Wilmington University to a 7-3 week, Kaitlyn Slater (Woodbridge) and Rosa’Lynn Burton (Caesar Rodney) were named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player and Rookie of the Week respectively.

It is the first time this season the Slater has earned the honor and the third time for Burton.

Slater went 17-for-35 in 10 games with 20 RBI and 11 runs scored. She hit five homers while setting the program’s single-season record with her eighth of the year,

Burton led the Wildcats with a .487 batting average while hitting her first collegiate home run. She had 10 RBI while scoring 10 runs. She also went 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts.

College lacrosse

Card scores twice for Wilm.: Caesar Rodney High grad Megan Card scored twice for Wilmington University in the Wildcats’ 14-6 loss to Philadelphia in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

College golf

Pair of Hens honored: Delaware freshman Ariane Klotz was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golf Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-CAA first team, while Blue Hen head coach Patty Post was tabbed the CAA Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Klotz’ 74.90 average round is the lowest single-season average in the six-year history of the program. She has posted a team-leading five top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish at the CAA Championship.

CAA champion Delaware will play in the NCAA Regionals on May 8-10.

College track & field

Wesley’s Brown earns award: Wesley College freshman track & field athlete Jasmine Brown was named the ECAC South Division III Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Brown picked up two Capital Athletic Conference titles this past weekend in the the triple jump (36 feet, 5 inches) and the long jump (17 feet, 10.75 inches). Brown also finished second in the high jump (5 feet, 4.25 inches) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.19).
