Caesar Rodney High shook off a slow start before downing rival Dover, 14-2, on Senior Night in Henlopen Conference Northern Division boys’ lacrosse on Wednesday night.

The Riders (5-0 North, 12-0) led just 1-0 after the first quarter before outscoring the Senators, 6-0, in the second quarter.

Zach Prebula had a game-high four goals for CR with David Schmidt (2 assists) and Sean MacLeish both scoring three goals apiece. Goalie Tyler Gross made six saves.

Dylan Handel and Devaughn Williams scored goals for Dover.

Cape Henlopen 18, Polytech 5: Leading only 4-3, the Vikings outscored the Panthers, 7-0, in the second quarter to take control of the Henlopen North contest.

Matthew Lally (5 goals, 2 assists), Michael Hopkins (3 goals, 2 assists), Kyle Orton (2 goals, 2 assists), Hank Coveleski (2 goals) and James Ashby (2 goals) were all multiple goal scorers for Cape. Christopher Argo made nine saves for the Vikings, who outshot Polytech, 33-17.

Jeremy Armann tallied three goals for the Panthers with Nathan Fairbanks stopping seven shots.

Delmar 11, Lake Forest 8: The Wildcats outscored the Spartans, 4-2, in the fourth quarter in posting the Henlopen South victory.

Jeremy Haynes scored a team-high three goals for Delmar with Linnie Vann, Alexander Rosenthal (2 assists) and Andrew Blewit all scoring twice. Hunter Gilmore stopped eight shots.

Milford 18, Indian River 1: The Buccaneers improved to 10-0 with the victory.

Sussex Tech 20, Sussex Central 3: The Ravens (8-3) netted 15 first-half goals in picking up their fifth straight win.

Jason Whaley collected five goals and five assists for Sussex Tech. Ian Calisle (1 assist), Matt Tull (2 assists), Nathan Hanenfeld (1 assist) and Isaac Loudon all added two goals for the Ravens.

Chase Wells and Cory McCary scored goals for the Golden Knights while Jordan Schmidt made 16 saves.

GIRLS, Smyrna 20, Padua 20: Shannon Noroozi scored two goals in the final 15 seconds of regulation to tie the contest for the Eagles.

Noroozi finished with seven goals while Alison Sayers added six goals and an assist. Kaila Hindt (4 goals), Allison Wheatley (2 assits) and Bailey Grey (1 goal) also scored for Smyrna while Shelby Carl made nine saves.

Worcester Prep, Md. 16, Sussex Tech 10: Victoria Lockwood and Torrie Huk (1 assist) scored three goals apiece to pace the Ravens in the loss.

Emma Spellman added two goals and an assist for Sussex Tech, which was outshot 22-19.

Baseball

Cape Henlopen 9, Indian River 5: The Vikings scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out their Henlopen Conference win.

Winning pitcher Kai Vitella, who gave up only two earned runs in five innings, hit a two-run homerun for Cape. Zack Gelof, David Kwan and Quinn Donohoe each added two hits and two RBI for the Vikings, who had 11 hits in the contest.

IR’s Mark Smith had a pair of RBI.

Red Lion Christian 6, Delmarva Christian 5: Pitcher Micah Magee hit a game-tying homer in the top of the seventh for the Royals but the Lions won it with a run in the eighth.

Magee struck out 11 and went 4-for-4 with the homerun and a pair of doubles.

Softball

Cape Henlopen 12, Indian River 10: The Vikings built an early 8-1 lead before holding off the Indians.

Sydney Ostroski had three hits, with a pair of doubles, with Hannah Jones hitting a two-run homerun.

Eliza Bomhardt, Julia Bomhardt and Samantha Mumford all had two hits, with a double, for IR.

Girls’ soccer

Wilm. Christian 10, St. Thomas More 2: Alexis Swinford netted a pair of second-half goals with Jenny Woinski making 10 saves for the Ravens.

College baseball

Delaware 9, Maryland 4: The No. 21 Terrapins took advantage of 10 walks and scored four of their runs via error, a wild pitch, or a walk/hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in beating the Blue Hens for the second straight day.

Maryland now leads the all-time series vs. Delaware 23-12-1 and has won seven of the last eight meeting between the programs. Zach Lopes and Joe Giacchino led Delaware with three hits as the Hens outhit Maryland, 11-7.

Towson 15, Delaware State 9: The Hornets hit four home runs but it wasn’t enough in the nonconference loss.

Charles Dailey and Jaylen Zielecki hit solo homers, while Chris Gonzalez and Cameron Onderko had two-run shots for DelState. Onderko had three hits and three RBI, while Gonzalez and Dailey knocked in two runs each for the Hornets.

College softball

Blue Hens post sweep: Delaware softball team closed out the non-conference portion of its season with a 15-0, 12-4 sweep of St. Peter’s.

Delaware (29-11) took control of the opener by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Mariah Kondravy doubled home a pair to break the UD single-season RBI record, and after Lisa Stacevicz drove her home with a single, Carolyn Szymanski drilled a two-run homer to rightfield.

Szymanski finished 3-for-3 with six RBI while Leanna Gearhart was 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.

Sarah Bencivenga drilled a two-run homer in the top of the first inning of the nightcap, before RBI singles by Jessica Grisler and Gearhart in the second made it a 4-0 game.
