Blue Hen sophomore Chivarsky Corbett buried a tie-breaking three-pointer from the top of the key with 5.2 seconds remaining as the University of Delaware men’s basketball team posted a thrilling 68-66 victory over Miami (Ohio) Friday night at Millett Hall.

Delaware (3-1) led from the 16:13 mark of the first half until the final moments of the game, when the Redhawks’ Rod Mills drained a three-pointer from the right wing to knot the contest at 64-64 with 14 seconds to play.

But Anthony Mosley raced down the court into the paint, before feeding Corbett at the top of the key for the game-winning triple.

The Blue Hens then fouled Miami’s Michael Weathers, who hit two free throws with 3.8 seconds to play. Corbett was then sent to the line, and after hitting the first foul shot, he missed the second but chased down the rebound in the corner. The Redhawks (1-2) eventually came up with the loose ball and Weathers’ heave from the opposite foul line was good, but clearly after the buzzer.

Mosley led Delaware with 17 points to go with four assists and four steals, while Corbett and Darian Bryant each contributed 16 on the night. Cazmon Hayes was the fourth Blue Hen in double figures with 13 points, while Eric Carter grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

WOMEN, Neumann 65, Wesley 50: After earning a nail-biting win in their season opener the Wolverines  could not come away with a repeat effort, falling to Neumann University.

Brionna Johnson led the team with 12 points while Monshea Newsome-Murray finished with 11 on 5-for-11 shooting. The sophomore point guard led the team with six rebounds and two steals as well.

College volleyball

Delaware 3, Northeastern 0: The surging Bleu Hens made quick work of Northeastern in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament at UNCW’s Hanover Hall.

The No. 6 seed Blue Hens, who have now won 9 of the last 11 games since mid-October, advance to the CAA Tournament semifinals where they will play No. 2 seed College of Charleston at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Delaware will play in the semifinals for the 10th time in league history but for the first time since the 2012 season,

Delaware, which evened its record at 15-15, defeated No. 3 seed Northeastern (20-11) for the second time in three weeks after posting a 3-2 victory at the Bob Carpenter Center on Nov. 4. Northeastern had earlier downed the Hens 3-0 in Boston back on Oct. 10.

The Hens won in straight sets by scores of 28-26, 25-18, and 27-25 for the victory. Senior Autumn Jenkins led the way with a match-high 12 kills while adding eight digs and setter Erin Layne continued her fine late-season play by dishing out 31 assists.

Jenkins, who has now reached double figures in kills 20 times this season and in 10 of the last 12 matches, surpassed the 1,000-dig mark for career during the match.

College football

Wesley places 15 on All-NJAC: The Wesley College Football team had 15 different individuals honored by the New Jersey Athletic Conference after earning the NJAC Co-Championship and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Nine Wolverines received First Team honors.

The Wolverines placed four skill position players and two offensive lineman on the NJAC First Team Offense. Running back Jamar Baynard earned First Team honors along with wide receivers Bryce Shade and Alex Kemp. Tight end Tory Robinson emerged as an NJAC First Team selection as well as offensive linemen Matt Gono and Austin Eagle, who were each selected to the All-Conference First Team last season as well.

Two Wolverines earned NJAC First Team honors on the defensive side of the ball. Linebacker Samer Manna and defensive back Andre Connally were each named to the NJAC First Team Defense. Bryce Shade earned his second consecutive NJAC First Team honor as a punt returner as well.

Four Wesley players earned NJAC All-Conference Second Team honors. Quarterback Nick Falkenberg was named to the Second Team despite only starting five games this season. On defense, Isaiah Ingram, Ben Robinson, and DaJahn Lowery each earned Second Team honors as well. Receiving an NJAC All-Conference honorable mention for the Wolverines were offensive lineman Blake Roberts and defensive lineman Nick Glover.

Running back E.J. Lee was also named Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year. The freshman earned NJAC Rookie of the Week four times, the most ever by a Wesley freshman, to earn the NJAC honor.
