Jeremy Carrow pitched a complete game three-hitter to lead Smyrna High to a 6-1 baseball victory over Newark High on Saturday afternoon.

Carrow struck out 10 in his seven-inning effort. Nate Ridgeway and Andrew Unterreiner each had RBI for the Eagles.

Max Lattomus went 3-for-3 and recorded a double.

Seaford 15, St. Andrew’s 5: The Blue Jays were led offensively by Justin Gray who had six RBI including a three-run home run in the first inning.

K-Ci Widdowson, Evan Nibblett and Dylan Nibblett added a pair of hits each while Tyler Harris contributed two RBI.

Softball

William Penn 10, Dover 8: Kaila Quick was 2-for-3 with a double for Dover as the Senators suffered a narrow nonconference defeat.

College baseball

Delaware State 3, UMES 2: Lane DeLeon threw seven solid innings and Darrien Ragins recorded his seventh save to lead Delaware State to a MEAC North win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the opener of the a three-game series.

The Hornets won their third straight division game to improve to 13-19 overall and 8-8 in league play.

Freshman Jared Gillis (Smyrna High) had two hits and a run batted in, while Evan Regez was 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the DSU offense.

DeLeon (2-3) allowed just three hits and one run, while striking out seven in seven innings of work. He was relieved by Terry Godfrey in the top of the eighth inning.

UD splits at Elon: The Hens dropped the opener 15-2, before rebounding to take the nightcap 3-2, earning the squad the CAA series victory after winning the first game of the series Friday night.

In game two the Hens got an outstanding start from usual closer Ron Marinaccio who pitched 4.2 innings of shutout ball. Brian Mayer and Nick Patten each hit a homer in the second game.

In the game one loss, the Hens received a pair of hits from Patten and a solo home run from Diaz Nardo.

College softball

DSU sweeps Howard: Senior Tara Tursellino had to work extra innings, but had enough in the tank to notch her school-record 46th win in Delaware State’s 3-2, eight-inning victory over Howard in game one of a MEAC North doubleheader Saturday. The Hornets also won the second game by a 3-2 score to sweep the twin-bill.

The complete-game victory was also the 36th of Tursellino’s career to also establish a new team record.

Delaware State scored the winning run in the opener on an eighth-inning single by Desiree Moreno, driving in Sabrina Quarles, who doubled to open up the inning.

In the nightcap, Delaware State scored three runs in the fourth inning to overcome and 2-0 deficit and freshman Hannah Shields pitched five shutout innings of relief in the Hornets’ third straight win.

Hens win once vs. Charleston: Blue Hen first baseman Mariah Kondravy belted a game-winning homer in the seventh inning to give the University of Delaware softball team a 5-4 victory in the opener before the College of Charleston responded with a 6-0 shutout in the nightcap as the teams split a doubleheader.

College golf

Delaware seventh at CAAs: Blue Hen senior Marc Oliveri is tied for fifth place in the individual standings while the team sits in seventh place following the second day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship.

The final two rounds of the tournament were scheduled for Saturday, but third round play was suspended in the late afternoon. The final round of the championship is scheduled to resume today at 9 a.m.

After carding a 290 team round on Friday, Delaware fired a 289 score during Saturday’s opening round and ended the day in seventh place out of nine teams at nine over par. Charleston leads the tournament with a 16 under par score, while Towson is second at 12 under and UNCW sits in third place at 11 under.

Oliveri fired a four under par 68 during his second round on the par 72, 7,035-yard Monacan Front Nine and Buckingham Back Nine at Salisbury Country Club, and was one over par through the front nine during his final round.
