The Cape Henlopen High wrestling team defeated Dover 42-24 in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division matchup on Wednesday night.

The Vikings bounced back from their first loss of the season, last week 47-13 to Smyrna High. With the win Cape Henlopen improved to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the Henlopen North.

Dover dropped to 8-3 overall and are 1-2 in the Henlopen North.

Milford 37, Indian River 33: The Buccaneers won the final two matches of the night thanks to a major-decision by Dom Hovington and a pin by Bryan Wynes

Smyrna 62, Polytech 0: The Eagles remained unbeaten against Delaware opposition this season with a shutout.

Nate Bryant, Tony Wuest and Eli Taylor recorded pins for Smyrna while Nick Natarcola won his match with a tech-fall.

Caesar Rodney 39, Sussex Tech 24: Mike Primo, Riley Tracy and Mikel Abdullah had pins to lift Caesar Rodney to a Henlopen North victory.

Kevin Bowne contributed a tech-fall for the Riders.

Woodbridge 42, Lake Forest 39: The Blue Raiders earned a narrow Henlopen South victory behind pins from Taeshaun Jackson, Gavin Manning, Robert Boyer and Enrique Ramos.

Sussex Central 66, Sanford 9: The Golden Knights cruised in a nonconference contest as Jevon Saffold, Junior Perez, Javier Perez, Blake Chambers and Lucas Hudson had pins.

Girls’ basketball

Delmarva Christian 38, Holly Grove Christian, Md 28: Camryn Breasure and Claire Marshall each netted eight points as the Royals downed the out of state opponent.

St. Elizabeth 64, St. Thomas More 32: Aniah Patterson’s nine points led the Ravens but they fell on the road on Wednesday.

Boys’ basketball

Indian River 71, Seaford 57: K.J. Custis led the Indians with 21 points in a game played on Tuesday night.

Jamier Felton chipped in 19 points while Isaiah Bratten had 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Delmarva Christian 53, Holly Grove Christian, Md. 31: Wyatt Kwiatkowski and Andrew Workman paced the Royals with 10 points apiece.

Men’s basketball

St. Mary’s, Md. 86, Wesley 76: The Wolverines dropped the CAC contest despite a game-high 26 points by JW Lawson.

Women’s basketball

St. Mary’s, Md. 72, Wesley 64: The Wolverines were outscored 12-4 in overtime by the Seahawks on Wednesday night.

Alexus Stroud was Wesley’s leading scorer with 18 points and Brionna Johnson added 16.

College baseball

UD picked fourth in CAA: The Blue Hens were picked fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Preseason Poll and  placed four players on the Preseason All-CAA Team, the league announced Wednesday.

Sophomore first baseman Nick Patten, sophomore starter Brandon Walter, and senior outfielder Jordan Glover were the UD representatives on the first team, while sophomore Kyle Baker was named honorable mention.

Overall, the Blue Hens received 39 points, falling just eights points behind third place College of Charleston.

Reigning CAA regular season champions UNCW received 64 points (eight of nine first place votes) while William & Mary was slotted second (52 points, one first-place vote). Elon finished fifth (36 points) followed James Madison, Northeastern, Towson, and Hofstra.

Delaware’s three first team All-CAA Preseason selections ranked second as only UNCW (5) had more selections.
