The Blue Hen women’s soccer team is on a roll.

The University of Delaware (3-8, 2-0 CAA) capped a perfect weekend Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens scored two goals in the first 34 minutes of the game and held on the rest of the way to move into sole possession of first place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a 2-1 victory over Hofstra at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.

After grinding through a 1-8 non-league slate, the Blue Hens’ fortunes took off this weekend as they opened CAA play with Friday’s 2-1 overtime win over Northeastern and followed with Sunday’s identical 2-1 victory over the Pride to extend their win streak to two games.

Delaware senior Madison Brosler, the hero of Friday night’s win with her goal in overtime, scored for the second straight game and senior Natalie Zelenky’s team-high third goal of the season with 10:30 left in the first half proved to be the game-winner.

Goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos continued her impressive play and made four saves to earn the win.

Frostburg State 4, Wesley 2: The Wolverines struck first but could not hold off the Frostburg State attack as the Wolverines fell to the Bobcats 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium in Western Maryland.

Janiah Moore (Caesar Rodney High) netted both Wesley goals, her third and fourth of the season, with assists on both scores coming from Aline Check. Aleya Cummings was held scoreless for the second straight contest as the Frostburg defense keyed in on the Wolverines’ top scorer. Sam Brannigan made 10 saves on the day in the loss.

MEN, Delaware 4, Northeastern 0: Tied 0-0 at halftime on Saturday night, with a 6-2 advantage in shots, Delaware shifted the momentum in the second period. The Hens (7-2, 2-0 CAA) tallied 13 shots to just another two for the Huskies (2-6, 1-1 CAA) while picking up four goals and six corner kicks.

Senior Ben Sampson registered a career-best two goals, including the game-winner in the 60th minute. Classmate Thomas de Villardi tied a career-mark by collecting the assists on both plays.

Freshman Fede Prieto notched his second goal of the season less than three minutes later while Sampson followed with his third tally of the season in the 69th minute. Senior All-American Guillermo Delgado amassed his 102nd career point with an assist on Prieto’s goal.

Junior Carlos Perales tacked on the final score of the evening in the 89th minute with an assist from senior Marco Siverio. Redshirt sophomore goalie Todd Morton picked up two saves for his seventh win of the year.

College field hockey

Delaware 5, Lafayette 1: The No. 12 Blue Hens received points from nine different players Sunday afternoon en route to a win over Lafayette at Rappolt Field.

Sophomore Greta Nauck opened the afternoon with her team-leading 13th goal of the season in the ninth minute.

Classmate Lisa Giezeman added the game-winner less than three minutes later with the assist coming from junior Lauren Crudele.

Delaware took the 4-0 lead into halftime following goals from sophomore Kiki Bink in the 30th minute and freshman Alexis Gazzio in the 34th minute. Senior Maura Zarkoski assisted on Bink’s goal while junior Taylor Lister and senior Meghan Winesett connected to assist Gazzio.

Junior Maggie Delp (Cape Henlopen High) wrapped the scoring for the Hens (8-2) in the 64th minute with the assist coming from Zarkoski.

College volleyball

Towson 3, Delaware 1: Towson recorded a 3-1 (29-31, 25-22, 25-23, 25-17) victory over the Blue Hens in both teams’ CAA opener Saturday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Delaware, which dropped its third straight match while falling to 6-8 overall and 0-1 in the league, received a season-high 13 kills from Daria Robinson, while Autumn Jenkins notched her sixth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 17 digs. Alexa Swann added nine kills and seven blocks on the night, while Taylor Hollingsworth made 17 digs and Julia Anderson recorded her second consecutive double-double with 34 assists and 11 digs.

Jessica Lewis pounded 25 kills while Jocelyn Kuilan added 16 for Towson, which improved to 13-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play while winning its third straight match. Marrisa Wonders contributed a double-double with 43 assists and 16 digs, while Anna Holehouse led all players with 26 digs.

Towson slammed 70 kills and hit .230 for the match, while Delaware posted 47 kills and a .161 attack percentage.
