Second-seeded Lake Forest High leads a group of seven Henlopen Conference squads that made the 16-team field for the DIAA softball state tournament, which was announced on Saturday.

The tourney starts on Tuesday afternoon with eight first-round games.

Lake Forest (16-2), the Henlopen Conference champion, will host No. 15 Wilmington Charter (10-8) at 4 p.m. in its opener.

In other opening-round games involving downstate teams, No. 8 Sussex Central (14-4) hosts No. 9 Delmar (14-4), No. 4 Sussex Tech (15-3) hosts No. 13 Newark Charter (13-4), No. 6 Smyrna (15-3) hosts No. 11 Milford (14-4) and No. 10 Indian River (13-5) travels to No. 7 Red Lion Christian (14-4).

All those games start at 4 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for May 30 at Roxana Little League’s Pyle Center.

Defending state champion Caravel (10-8) is the tourney’s top seed.

Lacrosse

Six Henlopen teams in boys’ tourney: Six Henlopen Conference teams made the bracket for the DIAA boys’ lacrosse state tournament that was determined on Saturday.

Two downstate squads will be in action on Tuesday when No. 4 Cape Henlopen (14-4) hosts No. 13 St. Andrews (8-6) at 5 p.m. while No. 15 Smyrna (8-7) goes to Wilmington to take on No. 2 Salesianum (11-3) at Baynard Stadium at 6 p.m.

In opening-round games on Wednesday, No. 10 Dover (11-4) faces No. 7 Delaware Military (11-4) at Tower Hill at 5 p.m., No. 6 Caesar Rodney (11-4) hosts No. 11 Milford (9-6) at 7 p.m. and No. 8 Polytech (11-4) hosts No. 9 Tower Hill (8-6) at 7 p.m.

Wilmington Friends (15-0) earned the top seed in the 16-team field.

GIRLS, St. Mark’s, 7, Polytech 6: Paige Megargee’s goal 40 seconds into overtime lifted fourth-seeded St. Mark’s High to the win in the DIAA girls’ lacrosse state quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (14-2) advance to Tuesday’s semifinals while the Panthers finish the season at 10-5.

Maddie McKay netted three goals for Polytech with MacKenzie Estrada, Madison Knight and Holly Rembold all adding one goal apiece. Goalie Shae Stephan made 11 saves.

The contest was tied 2-2 at halftime before each team tallied four second-half goals. The seven goals marked St. Mark’s second-lowest output of the season.

Cape Henlopen 19, Caravel 7: The third-seeded Vikings cruised past the sixth-seeded Buccaneers in Saturday’s first-round game.

Cape (14-2) will take on No. 2 Ursuline in Tuesday’s quarterfinals at a time and site TBA.

Girls’ soccer

Delmar 2, St. Elizabeth 0: The fifth-seeded Wildcats advanced to the Division II quarterfinals with the shutout win on Saturday.

Delmar (11-4) faces fourth-seeded Ursuline (11-4) at a time and site TBA.

Delaware Military 1, Lake Forest 0: The seventh-seeded Seahawks broke a scoreless tie late in regulation of the Division II first-round state tournament game.

It was the second straight year that the No. 10 Spartans (7-8) lost to DMA by a goal in the first round.

Baseball

Glasgow 8, Dover 6: After falling behind 5-0 in the second inning, the Senators’ comeback bid fell short.

Henlopen Conference champion Dover finishes the regular season at 13-5.

Joey Wunsch (2-for-3) hit a three-run homerun in the sixth for the Senators.

Cape Henlopen 3, St. Mark’s 0: The Vikings blanked the Spartans to finish the regular season with a record of 12-6.

Softball

Col. Richardson 17, Woodbridge 2: The Raiders dropped a nonconference decision to finish the season 2-16.

Tennis

Downstaters advance through first rounds: Caesar Rodney High’s boys’ and girls’ squads, along with Dover’s girls, advanced all five entries through the first two rounds of the DIAA state tennis tournaments on Saturday.

In the boys’ tourney, Smyrna also sent four of its five entries through to the state quarterfinals, which will be played on Monday afternoon.

Advancing for CR’s boys were Rishi Gundakaram (first singles), David Haynes (second singles), Garrett Wrede (third singles), Cyrus Shanehsaz-Gregor Gravelle (first doubles) and Yash Patel-Francis Tamesis (second doubles).

For Smyrna’s boys, Colin Shalk (second singles), Justin Nash (third singles), Shalk/Savich (first doubles) and Max Berman-David Fu (second doubles) are all still alive.

In the girls’ tournament, the Riders’ Halle Parker (first singles), Nastasha Sijan (second singles), Nora Frederick (third singles), Katherine Tamesis-Macaela Thorogood (first doubles) and Piper Casey-Chloe Mangubat (second doubles) all made it through.

The Dover players who advanced were Victoria Anyanwu (first singles), Aspen Ozer (second singles), Sophie Malenfant (third singles), Hayley Scheir-Kaitlin Canalichio (first doubles) and Jing Rhue Lin-Erin Biddle (second doubles).

Also still alive in the girls’ bracket are St. Thomas More’s Arbee Catipay (first singles) and Smyrna’s Kenley Cook-Morgan Holman (first doubles).

College baseball

Charleston 11, Delaware 7: The Blue Hens head into the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament as the fourth seed after Saturday’s loss in their regular-season finale.

Delaware (30-21, 15-9 CAA) will face Charleston (26-29, 13-11 CAA) again at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning in the double-elimination tournament, being played at UNC-Wilmington.

Delaware ends the regular season with the best overall record in the CAA. The Blue Hens also ended the regular season leading the conference in both hitting (.314) and ERA (4.48). Delaware is the first CAA member to accomplish that feat since James Madison in 2002.

“We really played some outstanding baseball this last two weeks, winning five out of the last six CAA games,” coach Jim Sherman said. “Today we came up just short. For the weekend we really played outstanding, it was just one bad inning of pitching today that was the difference. Now heading into the CAA Tournament as the four seed, we face Charleston again for the fourth time in six days. We’re excited to be back in the playoffs. Hopefully we can win it.”
