Third-seeded Wilmington Friends scored on a 10-yard pass and then kicked the deciding extra point to edge No. 6 Delmar, 21-20, in overtime in the DIAA Class 2A football state quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.

Avery Gaines caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Robby Tattersall before Alessio Cristanetti-Walker added on the deciding PAT kick.

The Quakers (10-1), who beat Delmar, 28-0, to open the season, will face No. 2 Woodbridge (11-0) in next weekend’s semifinals.

The Wildcats (7-4) got a pair of two-yard scoring runs from Jaylin Warner in regulation. Warner also caught a two-point conversion pass from Mark Oakley after his third-quarter TD to give Delmar a 14-7 advantage.

But Friends tied the contest in the fourth quarter when Gaines caught a 12-yard scoring pass from Tattersall.

The Wildcats got the ball first in OT with Warner scoring his third touchdown on a five-yard run. Delmar failed on the extra point.

Indian River 36, St. Andrews 0: The fifth-seeded Indians advanced to the Class 1A state semifinals with the shutout win over the No. 4 Cardinals.

Indian River (6-4) gets a rematch with top-seeded Laurel next weekend. The Bulldogs edged the Indians, 14-13, on Nov. 5.

Salesianum 34, Sussex Central 6: The third-seeded Sals scored the game’s first 27 points before topping the No. 6 Golden Knights in the Class 3A quarterfinals on Saturday night at Abessinio Stadium.

Sallies next faces No. 2 Middletown in the Class 3A semifinals next weekend.

Zimir Gardner threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns for Sussex Central, to Kristopher Shields and Gunnar Abbott. The defending state champion Knights end the season at 6-6.

College basketball

MEN, Long Island 99, Delaware State 65: Kyndall Davis came off the bench to lead five double-figure scorers with 21 points in the Sharks’ wire-to-wire victory.

Delaware State senior Myles Carter led all players with a career-high 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting from the field, including one three-pointer, and four free throws on four tries. Carter has combined for 49 points in the last two games to raise his season average to a team-high 16.8 points per game for the Hornets (2-4).

D’Marco Baucum was DSU’s only other double-figure scorer with 12 points. He also led the Hornets with nine rebounds, five on the offensive glass.

WOMEN, Delaware 72, Chicago State 63: The Blue Hens (6-1) won their fifth game in a row to close out the Florida International Thanksgiving Classic.

Jasmine Dickey finished with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season. Tyi Skinner followed with a season-high 20 points while Ty Battle added 14 points and 11 rebounds to post her fifth double-double of the season.
