DOVER — According to police and public information court records, at least eight felony driving under the influence arrests and charges occurred in Kent County within six days near the end of May, beginning on Memorial Day weekend. Also, nine misdemeanor DUI arrests were made from May 23 to 25, including three drivers each from Dover and Pennsylvania, and single arrests of Lincoln, Milford and Magnolia residents. All those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Felony arrests included: •May 28, Bryan S. McDermott, 52, of the 300 block of Sean Lane in Clayton, third offense alcohol DUI charge, failure to report collision, failure to have insurance, failure to have registration. According to the Delaware State Police, authorities investigated a collision report on May 27 at approximately 12:16 a.m. in the area of West Denneys Road and Maple Glen Drive in Dover. Police said a vehicle crashed into a ditch and partially overturned. Police said Mr. McDermott was arraigned at JP Court 7 and did not immediately post a $1,012 secured bail. He was then held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna. According to authorities, a computer check found Mr. McDermott previously was convicted on DUI charges in 1989 and 2014. •May 27, Rebecca A. Guiswite, 51, of the 400 block of Northeast 10th Street in Milford, fourth offense alcohol DUI charge, misdemeanor disorderly conduct. The Milford Police Department said an alleged stop occurred in the 600 block of North DuPont Highway. Ms. Guiswite’s bail was set at $4,500 secured, police said, and she was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correction Institution in New Castle. •May 23, Raymond O. Biddle, 46, of the 600 block of Longridge Road in Clayton, third offense alcohol DUI charge, driver’s license suspended/revoked. According to authorities, state police troopers went to the area of Bay Road northbound near Trapshooters Road and exit 91 to check on the welfare of a driver after phone calls were received concerning a vehicle allegedly traveling recklessly. Kentcom reported that the vehicle had stopped and a driver seemed to be asleep, the Delaware State Police said. Police said a strong alcohol odor allegedly was detected upon arrival, and the driver’s eyes were constricted. A $2,500 cash bond was ordered in JP Court 3, police said, and Mr. Biddle was then committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown. • May 23, Donald S. Cannon, 42, of the 200 block of Beechwood Avenue in Dover, third offense alcohol DUI charge. According to state police, a driver was seen allegedly not wearing his seat belt while traveling erratically on South State Street near Beechwood Avenue in Dover at 12:17 p.m. Police said records indicated Mr. Cannon was convicted of DUI in 2012 and reckless driving alcohol related in 2001. Mr. Cannon had a warrant out of JP Court 3, police said. He was transported to Sussex Correctional in default of bond. •May 23, Gary J. Foersch, 39, of the 100 block of Belmont Avenue in Smyrna, fourth offense alcohol DUI charge, and two traffic violations. According to Smyrna police, a driver was seen allegedly not wearing a seat belt at approximately 3:23 p.m. while traveling on South DuPont Boulevard near Chester Street. A traffic stop was made, police said, and officers allegedly detected a strong odor of alcohol. After field sobriety tests, police said Mr. Foersch was arrested, charged and arraigned at JP Court. He was released after posting a $2,026 secured bond pending a future court appearance, police said. •May 23, David W. Dale, 56, of the first block of Brown Street in Harrington was arrested for his sixth offense DUI charge. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a traffic violation and initially committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $7,001 secured bond. According to Harrington police, a 5:32 a.m. stop was made at on South DuPont Highway for an alleged traffic violation. Patrol officers allegedly smelled an alcohol odor coming from the vehicle, police said. After standard field sobriety tests were administered and completed, authorities said Mr. Dale as transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing. A computer check found DUI convictions dating back to 1986, police said. •May 23, Joseph C. Rodenbaugh, 51, of Felton, third offense DUI charge. According to state police, troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision report on Killens Pond Road in Felton at 2:12 p.m. Police said an investigation found that a vehicle allegedly had been rear-ended near Scrap Tavern Road, causing damage to both vehicles. Police said records showed Mr. Rodenbaugh had been convicted of DUI in 1989 and 2003. • May 23, Vincent L. Gaines, 32, of the 5000 block of Arthursville Road in Clayton, third offense DUI of alcohol and failure to yield/change lanes for stopped emergency vehicle/tow truck. The Clayton Police Department said a vehicle allegedly was seen traveling toward an officer on the Wheatley’s Pond Road shoulder during a domestic dispute investigation. Police said the vehicle stopped abruptly approximately 10 to 15 feet from an officer at approximately 10:42 p.m. Police said several tests were then conducted, and Mr. Gaines was then taken to a police department for an intoxilyzer test. Police said a computer check found Mr. Gaines had DUI convictions in 2005 and 2012. He was placed in a cell for eight hours to allegedly sober up while warrants were obtained, authorities said. Mr. Gaines was arraigned via video phone in JP Court 7.
