WOODSIDE — Polytech High School presents the musical “Fiddler on the Roof” today through Sunday. The shows tonight and Saturday are at 7 with a 2 p.m. matinée on Sunday.

26dsn Fiddler 3 by . Ronnie Griffin portrays Tevye in Polytech's production of "Fiddler on the Roof".

At the beginning of the 20th century, Jews and Orthodox Christians live in the little village of Anatevka in the pre-revolutionary Russia of the Czars. Among the traditions of the Jewish community, the matchmaker arranges the match and the father approves it.

In the show, the milkman Reb Tevye (Ronnie Griffin) is a poor man who has been married for 25 years to Golde (Caroline Hermance) and they have five daughters. When the local matchmaker Yente (Hannah Sturgis) arranges the match between his older daughter Tzeitel (Alyx Wilson) and the old widow butcher Lazar Wolf (Benjamin Stafford), Tevye agrees with the wedding.

However Tzeitel is in love with the poor tailor Motel Kamzoil (Dillan Young) and they ask permission of Tevye to get married.

Then Tevye’s second daughter Hodel (Erika Wharff) and the revolutionary student Perchik (Kyle Venarchick) decide to marry each other and Tevye is forced to accept.

When his third daughter Chava (Robin Cox) decides to get married to the Christian Fyedka (Blake Hermance), Tevye does not accept and considers that Chava has died.

Meanwhile the troops evict the Jewish community from Anatevka.

Songs include the classic tunes “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “Tradition” and “If I Were a Rich Man”.

The show is directed by John Link with music conductor Maxwell Dabby.
