DOVER — Ronald G. Poliquin has filed with the city of Dover’s clerk’s office to run for the 1st District council seat left vacated after Jim Hosfelt was elected to Kent County Levy Court.

Mr. Poliquin is the first candidate to announce his candidacy for the special election for Mr. Hosfelt’s vacated seat. The special election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16.

“My main priority is to stand up for taxpayers,” Mr. Poliquin said. “We need to hold the line on taxes, squeeze out government waste and implement initiatives to create and keep jobs in Dover.” “I will also continue the tradition of outstanding constituent services set by former council members Jim Hosfelt and Beverly Williams.”

Mr. Poliquin is a Dover attorney with the law firm of Brown, Shiels & Beauregard. Mr. Poliquin is also the head coach of Holy Cross School Chess Team. He is also president of The Meadows Homeowners Association and a former board member of Habitat for Humanity.
