DOVER — There were no obvious signs of foul play after a deceased 21-year-old Wesley College student’s body was found in Silver Lake last weekend, Dover Police said Thursday.

“We have no evidence that indicates foul play,” police spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said. “Ultimately the Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and that will take some time.”

Attempts to reach the Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security, which oversees the Office of the Medical Examiner, Thursday were not immediately successful.

The man’s body was discovered Sunday.

Citing safety concerns due to five bodies found at Silver Lake since 2010, Councilman Roy Sudler contacted local media earlier this week and called for the park’s indefinite closure while the matter is examined. Mr. Sudler is chairman of the city’s parks and recreational committee.

Mr. Sudler called for a March 28 community meeting at city hall for constituents to vote yes or no on whether the park should be closed indefinitely. The councilman said he would then present the findings to city council.

Cpl. Hoffman said the other past deaths did not involve foul play.

The Wesley student was last seen leaving a dormitory on Feb. 12. A Gold Alert was issued after the student reportedly made statements to others that were cause for concern for his health and safety.
