MILFORD — Investigating police believe a three-way lover’s quarrel/triangle sparked a shooting on May 11 that wounded two people, including one critically, according to court papers.

The Milford Police Department said Qualeel Westcott, 21, of the 13000 block of Old Road in Ellendale, turned himself in late last Thursday morning after warrants were earlier filed for his arrest.

In papers, police wrote that investigation found that Westcott had allegedly “threatened to shoot both her and (name redacted) if he ever caught them together again.”

In a probable cause affidavit, police said a nearly fatal wound occurred when a bullet from an unknown caliber gun entered a man’s left shoulder, went through his neck and lodged itself in his right lower jaw.

The bullet was removed, authorities said, and held as evidence.

A 25-year-old man said he suffered a minor injury when a gunshot grazed his chest, according to police in the affidavit.

The alleged incident took place at Brightway Commons Apartment Complex between approximately 12:05 a.m. to 12:18 a.m., police said in court papers.

Mr. Westcott was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by person prohibited, second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangering, and tampering with physical evidence.

After presentation at Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach, Mr. Westcott was held at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on $319,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled at the Kent County Court of Common Pleas in Dover.

According to police, a handgun in the case was described as a chrome colored semi-automatic later thrown into the Mispillion River.

Milford Police said a Delaware State Police dive team was scheduled to search for the firearm.

Police wrote that investigation found Westcott had allegedly “been threatening to kill people for the last few days.”
