DOVER — Delaware State Police are searching for two Philadelphia men wanted in the shooting deaths of two people early Saturday. Both suspects are considered armed and dangerous.
They are wanted in the death of Clifton Leager, 52, of Dover, and Haley Henwood, 18, of Philadelphia.
State troopers were called to the 1400 block of John Clark Road in Rodney Village at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of a home invasion. Mr. Leager’s daughter, not identified in a release issued by state police Sunday, reported her father had been shot by one of the suspects as he struggled with them.
Mr. Leager’s son, also not identified, allegedly was shot when he joined the struggle.
According to the initial police release, the suspects fled and the son chased them.
During the foot chase, shots were fired and a female, identified Sunday as Ms. Henwood, was struck, police said. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital Saturday.
Police identified the two suspects Sunday as Saleem Shabazz, 21, of Philadelphia. He is described as a slim black male about 6 feet tall and weighing 150 to 160 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing and allegedly armed with unknown type of handgun. Mr. Shabazz is wanted for first-degree murder, two counts of attempted robbery, first-degree assault, six counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of first-degree burglary, first-degree conspiracy and second-degree conspiracy.
Matthew Harrington, 23, of Philadelphia, is described as a slim white male about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing and allegedly armed with an unknown type of handgun. Mr. Harrington is wanted for first-degree murder, two counts of attempted robbery, first-degree assault, six counts of possession of a firearm, two counts of first-degree burglary, first-degree conspiracy and second-degree conspiracy.
The suspects may be driving a four-door dark-colored SUV.
Police emphasize both are considered armed and dangerous.
