HARRINGTON — One arrest was made and a second suspect sought after a shooting in a school parking lot late Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to Harrington Police spokesman Lt. Earl K. Brode, a 17-year-old suffered apparently non-life threatening injuries from gunshots to both legs at Lake Forest South Elementary School.

The wounded youth was playing football with a group of approximately 15 to 20 persons at nearby W.T. Chipman Middle School when a group of 8 to 10 persons arrived at approximately 3:58 p.m., authorities said.

For still-undetermined reasons, police said, a fight ensued and an unknown suspect fired a handgun several times before fleeing in a vehicle with three other occupants. The fight had broken up at the time of gunshots, Lt. Brode said.

Harrington Police believe the two groups “were familiar with each other” but it was unclear why the suspects arrived at the school. The incident remains under investigation, Lt. Brode said on Monday.

Patrol officers were called to the scene for a shots fired report, police said, and the wounded teen was taken by ambulance to Milford Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Christiana Hospital for further treatment.

While the alleged shooter departed in a vehicle with three others, police said it was not clear how the other members of the group left the area.

Police said the weapon was given to another suspect after the alleged incident, and has not been recovered.

Authorities received a description of the fleeing vehicle, which was located by a Delaware State Police trooper on Milford-Harrington Highway near John Char Estates. Two suspects fled on foot, police said, and the driver and another occupant were taken into custody.

The two apprehended persons were taken to the Harrington Police Department for questioning and released without being charged, Lt. Brode said. The vehicle belonged to an occupant’s parents, police said.

Police identified Dover residents Trequon T. Seth, 19, of the 1400 block of Hopkins Avenue, and David Brown, 20, of the first block of North Prestwick Court, as suspects.

After preliminary investigation, authorities alleged that Mr. Seth fired the handgun and Mr. Brown discarded it as both fled from the vehicle. Mr. Brown was found hiding in bushes at a residence on Old Airport Road, while Mr. Seth was not located, police said.

Mr. Brown was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first-degree reckless endangering, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, and second-degree conspiracy. He was arraigned through video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover and held at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown in default of $70,000 secured bond.

Active warrants are on file for Mr. Seth, who is charged with first-degree assault and multiple other alleged offenses.
