Newark’s Hillside Park officially open

NEWARK — The city announced Monday that its 37th public park, at the former site of the University of Delaware’s Rodney dorms on Hillside Road, is now open to the public.

This is the first time the city asked the public to choose the name of a new park, and the winning submission was Hillside Park, proposed by resident Barbara Morris, according to a city press release.

The park totals 7 acres and includes a fishing pier, a playground and natural play area, a paved and lighted walking trail, stormwater facilities and educational signage. Two pavilions will also be added in the spring.

Small projects are ongoing, including the installation of additional plantings and minor construction items.
