BEAR — The National Association for Black Veterans has added its flag to those flown at the Veterans Cemetery in Bear.

Nolan Lewis, U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, raised the flag as Commission Chairman Charles “Chuck” Baldwin, Executive Director of Veterans Services Josh Matticks and Delaware Veterans Coalition President Dave Skocik saluted.

Mr. Lewis serves as president of NABVETS Chapter 94. NABVETS was created to help ensure veterans whom come out of service have a way to help them go back to a healthy life.

“May 4, 2021 was a ‘banner day’ in more ways than one because it acknowledges an outstanding organization that assists all veterans, regardless of color,”  Mr. Baldwin said in a prepared statement. “Mr. Lewis is well-known and respected for his contributions and active participation in veterans affairs and we are honored to have him aboard the DCVA.”

Barbara Cooke, administrative director of the New Castle County Veterans Cemetery, also participated in the flag raising ceremony.
