M.O.T. Major League softball win forces second game for championship

M.O.T. edged Lower Sussex, 3-2, on Monday night to force a second game to decide the Major League softball state championship.

The two teams will play again today at Lower Sussex at 7 p.m. with the state champion advancing to the Eastern Regional in Bristol, Conn.

Monday’s victory avenged a 4-1 loss to Lower Sussex on Saturday for District I champion M.O.T., which is now 3-1 in the three-team tournament. District III champion Lower Sussex is 1-1.

M.O.T. 10, Canal 1: M.O.T. reached the state finals with the victory on Sunday night.

Winning pitcher Brenna Jester tossed a no-hitter and struck out 11 for M.O.T. while Siena Evans went 3-3, with a triple and double.

8-10 District I Tournament

M.O.T. 19, Camden-Wyoming 0: Winning pitcher Ava Perrucci struck out all nine batters she faced as M.O.T. won its opener in the three-team tourney.

Sophie Miller (2 RBI, 3 runs) and Peyton Hungerford (3 RBI, 2 runs) both went 2-for-2 for M.O.T., which plays Milford today at 7 p.m. at Dover.

Watson earns third win: After nearly two months of weather cancellations, Delaware International Speedway was finally able to resume the season on Saturday night.

Jordan Watson picked up his third win this season in the Delaware Dirt Modified division and collected the $2,750 purse.

Starting in second, Watson made it to the front by the sixth lap. He began to see his lead slightly dwindle as once again he was battling lapped traffic coming down to two laps go.

However, Watson cleared the lapped traffic, and cruised his way to the checkered flag, making it three straight wins in the modified division for the season.

In the AC Delco Modified feature, Greg Humlhanz was two turns away from taking the checkered when the caution came out for a car parked on the pit exit road. Humlhanz had a great restart and put his car into victory lane to collect the $1,450 purse.

In the RUSH Crate Late Model feature, a caution tightened the field with three laps left. Derek Magee did not get the start he wanted which stacked up the field going back to green, and allowed Matt Hill to pull away to the win the 15-lap feature.

In the Mod-Lite Division, Jimmy Wills immediately took over the lead on lap number one sand went on to earn the victory.

The last two races of the evening were the Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks. Joey Waters was victorious in the Chargers and Matthew Smith won in the Super Truck feature.
