Mixing politics with religion

In the United States we are all free to worship, or not, as we choose. We are not free to impose our religious beliefs on others. In the Jan. 23 edition there was a story on Page 1 about state Sen. Bryant Richardson’s (R-Laurel) intent to limit abortions. His point of view is based on religion. His intention is to impose a religious point of view on what is, essentially a political question. His opinion is not shared by a large portion of the state’s population and imposing it on people who do not believe as he does smacks of theocracy not democracy. Why is it that so many members of his party conflate the two?
