The Milford High girls’ basketball team drained eight three-pointers and had three players in double figures as it defeated Woodbridge High 61-35 on Thursday night in a Henlopen Conference Southern Division matchup.

Kiarra Brittingham was the Buccaneers’ leading scorer with a game-high 17 points. Brittinham hit five three-pointers.

Jameshia Baker followed with 15 and Rajene Bowe netted 11. Milford improved to 7-6 overall.

Woodbridge was led by Lisa Eck’s 11 points.

Boys’ basketball

Indian River 67, Delmar 64: The Indians held off the Wildcats in overtime in a Henlopen South contest on Thursday night.

Jamier Felton paced the Indians with 21 points while K.J. Custis added 13 points. Isaiah Bratton chipped in 11 points for Indian River.

William Schuyler’s 16 points led the Wildcats and Brooks Parker had 14.

College softball

Hens picked sixth in CAA: The University of Delaware softball team was picked sixth in the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll announced by the conference on Thursday.

James Madison, last year’s regular season and tournament champion, received seven of eight first place votes and finished on top of the poll with 49 points. League tournament runner-up Towson was picked second with 41 points and garnered the other first place vote, while the College of Charleston and Hofstra tied for third place with 32 points.

Elon was picked fifth with 27 points, followed by Delaware (19), UNCW (17) and Drexel (7).

Delaware, which will be led by second-year head coach John Seneca, returns eight letterwinners and five starters for the 2017 season. The Blue Hens went 30-21 last season, their second consecutive 30-win season, and advanced to the CAA Tournament with a 9-9 league mark.

Delaware set a school record with 101 stolen bases on the year, which led the CAA and ranked 15th in the nation.

Additionally, the Blue Hens’ 255 runs scored and 33 homers were both second most in program history.

College soccer

Wesley women honored for sportsmanship: The Wesley College women’s soccer team was recently named a recipient of the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to NSCAA members that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game. The award is given on four levels that are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players/coaches divided by the team’s total number of games played.

The Wolverines were given only three yellow cards during the 16 games in the 2016 season, placing them in the Silver level. The Silver Award is given to teams that accumulate cards in between 11-30 percent of their total games.

The Wolverines were one of four Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) member institutions to be honored with the award. Frostburg State, Mary Washington and St. Mary’s all received Silver Awards.
