DOVER — A Maryland man has been indicted on first-degree robbery and assault charges after investigation into an alleged stabbing incident last summer involving a vehicle ride to Dover, court papers said.

According to the Delaware State Police, a 47-year-old Georgetown man was stabbed in the shoulder after a ride from Federalsburg, Maryland, to Dover on Aug. 24, 2015. He was later transported by EMS to a hospital and treated for a non-life threatening injury, authorities said.

Police alleged $5 was requested from the man before he refused and was stabbed by an unidentified man. Cash was taken from his wallet. The wounded man later was seen standing in the area of Upper King Road and Main Street in Woodside, police said. He told a passer-by he had been stabbed.

After police investigation, Thomas A. Lumpkin, 57 at the time of the alleged incident, also was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, documents said.

According to police, Mr. Lumpkin was arrested as a fugitive by the Federalsburg Police Department on Nov. 11, 2015, and transported to Delaware eight days later to face charges.

On Monday in Kent County Superior Court, Deputy Attorney General Greg Babowal signed the indictment for the Delaware Department of Justice.
