DOVER — Sen. Ernie Lopez announced Monday he plans to introduce legislation that would require the Education Department to fully detail cases where teachers lost their licenses.
Currently, records indicating why a teacher’s license has been suspended or taken are not public.
“On the whole, our excellent teachers are one of Delaware’s greatest assets,” Sen. Lopez, R-Lewes, said in a statement.
“But too often in recent years we have picked up the morning paper to find another charge of abuse. This needs to stop, and the Department of Education needs to be fully transparent. Protecting bad teachers hurts our kids and sends the wrong message.”
More details on the planned bill will be made public soon.
