MIDDLETOWN - Long-time Mayor Kenneth L. Branner Jr. was elected to another term and three incumbents retained their town council seats during the Town of Middletown’s election Monday.
Mr. Branner, first elected as mayor in 1989, garnered 838 votes to best challenger Joseph D. Pontak Sr., who received 368 votes. The mayor was re-elected for a two-year term.
Council members Andrew Chas (830 votes), Aaron T. Blythe (726) and James Royston (638) were re-elected to two-year terms, besting Ernest F. Hargett Jr. (448), Malika Spruill (334), Robert Muniz (269) and Tynesia Stewart (234). Eight write-in votes were cast as well.
Voting was conducted from noon to 8 p.m. at Middletown Town Hall. The results were unofficial and must be certified by the Middletown Board of Elections.
