Smyrna High made it 10 wins in a row with a 65-49 victory over St. Elizabeth in nonconference boys’ basketball on Thursday night.

Caleb Matthews’ three-pointer at the halftime buzzer gave the Eagles (15-2) a 29-20 halftime lead before putting away the Vikings in the fourth quarter.

Matthews (18 points), who hit four threes, Jaymeir Garnett (15), Anthony Watson (10) and Iyair Hinson-Purnell (10) all scored in double figures for Smyrna.

The Eagles have now won its last three meetings with St. Elizabeth (9-7).

Indian River 64, Sussex Central 57: Jamier Felton and Isaiah Bratton both contributed double-doubles as the Indians downed their intra-district rivals.

Felton (21 points, 10 rebounds), Bratton (19 points, 14 rebounds) and Thomas Dibuo (14) all scored in double figures as IR overcame an early three-point deficit.

Ethan Lambert (18 points) and Devon Reynolds (15) paced the Golden Knights.

Parkside 62, Delmar 46: Brooks Parker and John Roberts netted 10 points apiece for the Wildcats in their nonconference loss.

Girls’ basketball

Lake Forest 70, Smyrna 61: Mya Maddox poured in 28 points, including five of Lake’s 10 three-pointers, as the Spartans posted the victory.

Arika Burrell added 22 points and four three-pointers for Lake Forest, which held a 42-25 halftime lead.

Jayla Smith tallied 25 points for Smyrna, which also got 15 from Melena Credle.

Caesar Rodney 82, Milford 54: Alexis Reid netted 23 points to lead five Riders in double figures in the non-division win.

CR scored a total of 50 points in the second and third quarters.

Also reaching double digits were Kylie Kornegay-Lucas (18), Brionna Brooks (17), Alissa Haith (13) and Mekia Eaton (10).

Jameisha Baker (15), Tayeler Duffy (14) and Rajene Bowe (13) all paced the Buccaneers.

Cape Henlopen 40, Sussex Tech 37: The Vikings edged the Ravens in a Henlopen North contest.

Sussex Central 53, Indian River 27: The Golden Knights outscored the Indians, 31-11, in the second half to break open a six-point game.

College track & field

Wolverines ranked fifth nationally: The Wesley College men’s track & field team is ranked in the top five for the first time in school history in the latest Division III Top 25 from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Wolverines climbed a spot in the rankings from sixth to fifth, collecting 79.06 points in the computerized rankings. Wisconsin-La Crosse is the top-ranked men’s team with 151.49 points while MIT, Wisconsin-Whitewater and Benedictine (Ill.) are placed above Wesley.

The Wolverine women maintained their position at 17th.

The men’s team features five athletes that are ranked in the top-10 in their events and two athletes who are in the top-three. The Wesley women carry three athletes with top-10 marks.

The Wolverine men’s and women’s track & field teams recorded 17 top-five finishes at the Frank Colden Invitational last Saturday, held at Ursinus College.
