Local roundup: Polytech, Hodgson battle to 1-1 tie

Polytech High and Hodgson played to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference boys’ soccer game on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers improve to 3-7-1 after going 1-0-1 on the week. They play at Lake Forest on Monday at 4 p.m.

The Silver Eagles are 3-8-1 and play at Smyrna on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Wilmington Charter 3, Indian River 2: Jake Walhor’s goal in the 62nd minute broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Force to the victory.

Jordan Illian scored twice in a span of just four minutes, tying the game at 2-2 on a goal in the 55th minute. Reece Stone made 10 saves for IR, which was out-shot 15-9.

Charter held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Field hockey

Caesar Rodney 9, Delmarva Christian 0: Allyson Durham (1 assist) and Angelina Hulse both scored twice in the Riders’ non-conference win on Saturday.

Seven players scored goals for CR, which earned its fifth shutout of the season. The Riders had 48 shots and 20 corners in the contest.

The Royals made 26 saves.

Volleyball

Caravel 3, Indian River 0: The Buccaneers downed the Indians by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 26-24 in a non-conference match.

Football

Wilmington Charter 48, Early College 6: The Hornets fell behind 42-0 at halftime before falling to 0-5 on Saturday.

Khalil Kemp caught a 54-yard scoring pass from Joshua Devonish for Early College’s lone touchdown.

College soccer

Prillaman shines for Spiders: Caesar Rodney High grad Jessie Prillaman, now a junior forward on the Richmond women’s soccer team, is the leading scorer for the Spiders this fall.

Prillaman has netted six goals with a pair of assists for 14 points for Richmond. She’s also put 12 of her 22 shots on goal this season.

As a freshman in 2019, Prillaman played in 16 of 18 games with three assists. Richmond didn’t play last school year because of the pandemic.

College volleyball

Delaware 3, Northeastern 0: The Blue Hens extended their winning streak to four matches in a row with the 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 victory.

Delaware is 4-5 in the CAA, 9-9 overall.

Lani Mason has led the way for the Hens in kills over the last three matches, and she added seven digs and two block assists to her stat line on the afternoon. Lauryn Richardson and Savannah Seemans (eight digs) both followed with nine kills.

Ezgi Basaranlar directed the Delaware offense with a match-best 33 assists to go with seven digs, four kills, three block assists and two aces. Katie Turner scooped up eight digs and dished out five assists.
