Local roundup: M.O.T, forces 2nd 8-10 D-I baseball title game

M.O.T. defeated Camden-Wyoming 10-7 in the 8-10-year-old baseball District I tournament on Saturday night.

The victory forces a second championship between the two squads. The winner-take-all contest will be tonight at 7 p.m. at Dover Little League.

Third baseman Jay Sanchez of Camden-Wyoming takes a throw from a teammate in time to tag M.O.T.s Braedon Alexander when he tried to advance on a loose ball.

American Legion

Stahl Post-30 7, Post-6 Patriots 0: The Sussex County American Legion team fell in the first round of the American Legion state tournament.

Stahl Post-30, the third seed, will play second seed Fox Post-2, the Dover-area team, today at 5 p.m. at Caravel.

Post-6 Patriots has an elimination game Monday at noon against Post-25 Middletown at St. Mark’s.

Softball

Senior League

New Jersey 14, Smyrna-Clayton 0: New Jersey scored three runs in the first inning and held on as Smyrna-Clayton fell in its first game of the East Regional.

Mary Watts had a pair of hits to lead Smyrna-Clayton.

Smyrna-Clayton has its second game of the tournament today against New York at 9 a.m.

Junior League

Laurel-Millsboro-Nanticoke 10, New Jersey 0: The District III and state champions opened up the East Regional with a 10-run victory.

Laurel-Millsboro-Nanticoke will play New York today in its second game at 11:30 a.m.

Tennis

Brengle reaches final: Madison Brengle made it to the finals of the Berkley Tennis Club Challenge, a 60K ITF tournament, thanks to a victory in Saturday’s semifinal match.

Brengle, the tourney’s top seed, defeated Kristie Ahn in straight sets. The Dover native took the match 6-1 6-3.

Brengle will face Mayo Hibi in the finals today at 5:30 p.m.
