Thomas McPoyle netted five first-half goals as Caesar Rodney High posted a 9-0 victory over Dover in Henlopen Conference Northern Division boys’ soccer on Thursday.
The win was the seventh in a row for the Riders (3-1 North, 7-3 overall). CR held advantages of 26-12 in shots and 7-4 in corner kicks.
Chikezie Ikwuagwu and Ian Bernat added goals for CR, which also picked up a pair of own goals. Goalie Nathan Reid made six saves to earn the shutout.
Sean Quirk stopped 12 shots for the Senators.
Sussex Central 4, Smyrna 0: Christopher Ramirez netted a pair of goals less than two minutes apart in the first half as the Golden Knights improved to 4-0 in the Henlopen North.
Isaiah Jean-Baptiste and Dalendy Dupervil (1 assist) added second-half goals. Central finished with advantages of 21-2 in shots and 4-0 in corner kicks.
Indian River 4, Laurel 0: Mikie Mochiam scored a goal in each half in the Indians’ Henlopen South victory.
Johan de jesus Cordoba contributed a goal and three assists for IR, which led 2-0 at halftime. Oscar Cruz Osorio also scored for the Indians with Kevin Calles making four saves.
Laurel’s Jailon Gillespie made 14 saves. IR outshot the Bulldogs, 22-4.
Sussex Academy 2, Seaford 1: Will Davis’ overtime goal lifted the Seahawks to the Henlopen South win.
Delmar 8, Lake Forest 4: The Wildcats topped the Spartans in a Henlopen South matchup.
Field hockey
Dover 3, Polytech 2: Freshman Sydni Warman scored at the 1:31 mark in overtime to give the Senators the dramatic Henlopen Conference win.
For Dover (5-4 in conference, 6-4 overall), which won its fourth game in a row, it was its first victory over the Panthers since 2009.
Kristen Adkins’ goal with just 6.1 seconds left in regulation tied the game for the Senators. Mira Prisco scored Dover’s first goal and also assited on the game-winner.
Madison Francois made four saves for the Senators.
Polytech (5-3, 7-3), which got a pair of second-half goals from Cam Dennis, outshot Dover, 11-6. Both teams had 10 corners. Holly Rembold made three saves.
Milford 4, Caesar Rodney 0: Rajene Bowe tallied three second-half goals as the Buccaneers (9-0) pulled away to the Henlopen win.
Megan Fry (1 assist) added a first-half goal for the Buccaneers, who held advantages of 18-4 in shots and 14-2 in corners. Goalie Leah Barnett made four saves.
CR goalie Lauren Caulk made 14 saves.
Smyrna 9, Seaford 0: Cassidy Cook scored four goals as the Eagles blanked the Blue Jays.
Lindsey Asbury and Madeline Wilber (1 assist) both scored twice with Jessica Bergold adding the other goal for Smyrna. The Eagles outshot Seaford, 25-1, and held an 8-5 edge in corners.
Yeliz Kurt stopped 16 shots for the Jays.
Cape Henlopen 4, Sussex Central 0: The Vikings tallied three second-half goals to remain unbeaten in the Henlopen Conference.
Delmar 6, Indian River 0: Ashlyn Carr tallied four goals for the Wildcats, who scored three goals in each half.
Hailey Bitters (3 assists) and Nancy Harris also scored for Delmar, which outshot the Indians, 39-0.
IR goalie Mya Parks made 22 saves.
Volleyball
Caesar Rodney 3, Dover 0: The Riders downed the Senators, 25-9, 25-9, 25-9, to pick up the Henlopen North victory.
CR was paced by Sara Cessna (8 kills), Shivani Modi (6 kills, 2 aces) and Ana Lucia Villabona (3 aces, 19 assists).
Smyrna 3, Sussex Central 0: The Eagles moved to 5-0 in the Henlopen North with the 25-12, 25-8, 25-13 victory.
Milford 3, Woodbridge 0: The Buccaneers won the Henlopen South match, 25-11, 25-10, 25-14.
Deanna Maloney (6 kills, 5 aces) and Madison Rogers (2 kills, 18 aces) led Milford.
Sussex Tech 3, Polytech 1: The Ravens won the first two sets before finishing off the tightly-contested Henlopen North win, 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 27-25.
Leading Polytech were Kaylee Williams (18 kills, 2 aces, 24 digs), Ashley Blaeuer (2 kills, 10 digs, 25 assists) and Kelsey Hudson (2 kills, 1 ace, 12 digs).
Delmar 3, Lake Forest 1: The Wildcats won the Henlopen South match by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21.
Avery Wheatley had 17 kills and five aces for Delmar, Le’Zhane Holmes and Aizha Brown had seven kills apiece and Samantha Lehman added 35 assists.
Red Lion Christian 3, Cape Henlopen 1: The Lions won the final three sets to post a 17-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20 win in a nonconference match.
Leading the way for Cape were Logan Shuttleworth (6 kills, 1 ace, 23 digs, 28 assists), Taylor Collier (7 kills, 1 ace, 26 digs) and Abigail E’Nama (10 kills, 1 ace). The Vikings (8-2) had an eight-match winning streak snapped.
