One week after getting shut out, the Lake Forest High football team rebounded in a big way on Saturday.
Five different players scored touchdowns while nine different Spartans tallied points as Lake Forest cruised to a 52-14 win over Newark on its homecoming Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans, who were blanked by Sussex Tech, 10-0, last week for their first loss of the season, led 30-8 at halftime against the Class 2A Yellowjackets (2-3).
Jamir Marable ran for a pair of first-half TDs with Jalen Morris catching two touchdown passes from quarterback Jonathan Tyndall for the Spartans (4-1). Lake Forest also got a TD run from Calif Spencer.
Lake Forest capped off the victory by getting touchdowns from senior linemen Ke’Andre Scott, who recovered a Newark fumble in the end zone, and Kasandan Clanton, who ran two yards for a fourth-quarter TD.
Field hockey
Dover 3, Indian River 2: Three different players scored goals for the Senators in their win that was played at UD’s Rullo Stadium as part of the Turf Bowl.
Mikayla Gholston, Superia Clark and Jewels Goldman (1 assist) scored for Dover, which led 2-1 at halftime. The Senators, who out-shot IR, 11-5, got six saves from Savannah Strauss.
Emma Ruley tallied both IR goals and Caylee Schmidt made six saves.
Smyrna 5, Caravel 2: The Eagles scored three unanswered second-half goals in posting their Turf Bowl victory.
Dru Moffett had a goal and three assists for Smyrna, which go goals from five different players. Also scoring for the Eagles were London Bebout, Ryla Wilber, Regan Nacrelli and Reese Nacrelli.
Smyrna, which got five saves from Halle Geiger, held edges of 13-6 in shots and 11-3 in corners.
Caesar Rodney 2, Milford 1: Madelyn Reed and Peyton Shields both scored second-half goals as the Riders held off the Buccaneers for the Henlopen North win.
Bailey Minear made 11 saves for CR, which finished with advantages of 15-12 in shots and 9-3 in corners.
Madisyn Hitchens scored with 5:23 left for the Buccaneers, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Sussex Academy 6, Appoquinimink 0: Addison Basile scored twice in the first half with Callie Short adding a pair of goals in the second half in the Seahawks’ Turf Bowl win.
Rilyn Lehman and Madison Leeper (2 assists) also scored while Lilly McAroy made two saves.
William Penn 2, Seaford 0: The Colonials scored twice in the third quarter to down the Blue Jays.
Dover 3, Queen Anne’s, Md. 1: Superia Clark scored twice with Kayloni Dixon added the other goal in the Senators’ victory on Friday.
Boys’ soccer
Worcester Prep, Md. 5, Delmar 3: The Wildcats couldn’t hold onto a 3-2 halftime advantage in the non-conference loss.
College soccer
MEN, Northeastern 3, Delaware 2: The Huskies scored a pair of second-half goals to edge the Blue Hens in a CAA contest.
The match snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak for Delaware (0-5 CAA, 1-8 overall) against Northeastern.
College volleyball
Delaware 3, UNC-Wilmington 1: The Blue Hens posted the CAA win by scores of 25-11, 17-25, 25-17, 25-22 to improve to 2-5 in the CAA, 7-9 overall.
