Delaware exploded for 13 runs in the opener before posting a walkoff victory in the nightcap as the Blue Hens swept a CAA softball doubleheader from Drexel, 13-0 and 4-3, on Sunday afternoon.
Delaware’s 13-2 record is its best mark through 15 games since the Hens finished 14-1 during the program’s inaugural season in 1976.
The Hens pounded out 14 hits in the opener, as Hanna and Julz Garber finished with three apiece. Brittney Mendoza and Karolina Flores both added two hits and three RBI, while Halle Kisamore and Lexi Moore (Smyrna) also recorded a pair of hits.
That would be plenty of support for Emily Winburn, who tossed a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.
With the nightcap tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Mendoza hit a pop-up right at home plate, but the ball was dropped by Drexel’s catcher, allowing Julz Garber to score the winning run.
